  • Excellent local food podcast

Sound Bites is an excellent show with fun food talk from Memphis food critic Jennifer Biggs and bon vivant Chris Herrington. The topics are always interesting and the pair have a nice repartee. However, I would recommend avoiding episodes featuring Eric Barnes, who breaks the usual convivial atmosphere with his particularly smug and grating presence.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S9E29: What to expect at Memphis' first Edgy Tomato Festival
Q: Does every vendor have to have a tomato-themed option for food or wares?
Not every vendor is required to be tomato-themed, but Anna House was intentional in curating a tomato-forward lineup to keep the festival cohesive and fun, while allowing room for other types of vendors.
S8E24: Zio Matto Gelato
Q: Tell us about yourself and how you got to Memphis.
Matteo explains his origins in Torino, Italy, his move to Memphis around 2005, and how photomaking and film work eventually led him to start gelato as a new entrepreneurial path during the pandemic.
S8E32: Kinfolk, Sundays and Gussied Up
Q: Give me an elevator pitch for Gussied Up.
Gussied Up is envisioned as a neighborhood, dive-bar-inspired concept in the Edge District that operates as a day-friendly Hard Times Deli space by day and flips to a Gussied Up menu at night, blending casual beer-forward dining with a nostalgic, elevated twist on classic dive-bar staples, all anchored by a shared kitchen and local collaborations.
S8E29: Grind City Brewing's next chapter
Q: How did Grind City evolve from a neighborhood brewery to a multi-venue destination?
Hopper explains the strategic shift toward events, weddings, and concerts, pulling back wholesale and investing in tap room experience and infrastructure to support big shows.
S9E20: The Daily Memphian's new food writer
Q: Where to eat after midnight?
Sophia shares local late‑night favorites around downtown, including Max's Sports Bar Pizza and E&H, highlighting personal comfort picks and the challenge of finding spots open late.
