  • Excellent local food podcast

Sound Bites is an excellent show with fun food talk from Memphis food critic Jennifer Biggs and bon vivant Chris Herrington. The topics are always interesting and the pair have a nice repartee. However, I would recommend avoiding episodes featuring Eric Barnes, who breaks the usual convivial atmosphere with his particularly smug and grating presence.

S9E9: Jimmy Gentry Part Two
Q: How did the Michelin recognition feel at the time?
It was a mix of surprise and validation; they hadn't expected it, and the email confirming the nomination came late, but it sparked a broader conversation about what the city's dining scene could become.
S9E12: The Chez Phillipe Experience
Q: I really just want to know what your story is.
Keith describes starting in front of house, moving into back-of-house roles, and gradually finding his path in kitchens, leading to his long tenure and eventual leadership at Chez Phillipe.
S9E8: Jimmy Gentry Part One
Q: How did your experiences shape your approach to menus and cooking now?
From learning to balance flavors in high-end casino service to focusing on vegetable-forward dishes at PO. Press and The Lobbyist, I learned that structure and creativity can coexist, and vegetables can be the centerpiece when given proper technique and context.
S9E8: Jimmy Gentry Part One
Q: Tell me your story.
I'm a Memphian through and through, with early roots in family food and a career that started on the dish table and moved through multiple Memphis kitchens, casino dining rooms, and eventually leadership roles that shaped my restaurants and catering style today.
S9E7: Swamp Lounge to open in former Second Line space
Q: How does Swamp Lounge differ from Swamp Bar when it opens?
Swamp Lounge will mirror the Swamp Bar's vibe but will feature more casual food, televisions for watching local sports, and a space optimized for events and live performances, with a larger patio and opportunities for reservations.
