  • Relaxed Chats with Genuine People

It’s so refreshing to hear interviews with career cricketers who never quite made it to international stardom. There’s a wholesomeness and relatability to Matt’s conversations with his guests as a result. Feels like a chat with a friend rather than an orchestrated sporting highlights list. Great job Matt!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Paul Harris - The Journey of a Proteas Spinner
Q: Can you share the feeling of your Test debut, especially taking Sachin Tendulkar's wicket?
Taking Tendulkar's wicket was a career-highlight, giving belief that I belonged among the greats, and it set the tone for the rest of my early Test career.
Paul Harris - The Journey of a Proteas Spinner
Q: What was it like to move into first-class cricket and eventually to the international stage?
It felt like the best job in the world, playing sport for a living; the decision largely depended on family support and recognizing the long-term financial realities, but the opportunity to represent South Africa at the highest level was a no-brainer.
Paul Harris - The Journey of a Proteas Spinner
Q: When did you learn to spin the ball, and what was your path to moving from seamers to spin?
I started bowling seamers until I was about 13 or 14, then a back growl or growth spurt pushed me to spin in the nets; the coach supported the switch and that changed my career trajectory.
Paul Van Meekeren - Associate Cricket To World Stage
Q: Who would you invite to your dream cricket nets session and why?
I'd invite Ryan Reynolds for his humor and business insight, Dennis Bergkamp for inspiration from a top athlete, and Bas Smit for his entrepreneurial mind and social presence, hoping for a mix of fun, creativity, and practical lessons in handling public attention and branding.
Paul Van Meekeren - Associate Cricket To World Stage
Q: What was it like to have a breakout World Cup moment against Ireland, in a reduced format, and then the ensuing nerves of interview after such a performance?
The Ireland game in a shortened format was intense and nerve-wracking, but it showcased the adrenaline of fast bowling under pressure. Delivering a strong performance, with key overs and pivotal moments, helped cement confidence and demonstrated that you belong at the world stage even in a compressed game.
