  • Let your courageous flag fly free

Loved Ryan’s conversation with my friends and mentors, Mike and Kass Lazerow. Ryan is able to dispense levity while getting to the heart of what makes his guests tick. And he makes his guests think rather than fawn over them. Hosts of all media types should take heed of his conversation style — he’s asking questions and covering topics he believes is interesting and his gift is allowing other people to listen.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Helen Calcraft - Founding Partner at Lucky Generals
Q: What does leadership mean in an industry undergoing consolidation and rapid change?
Leadership, for Helen, is about believership—creating a culture where people believe in the mission, can say no when necessary, and are empowered to push back against practices that don't align with core values.
Melissa Ninegar - Senior Director of People & Culture at Once Upon a Farm
Q: OK. So, how would you describe the business and your role in it?
Melissa describes Once Upon a Farm as a high-quality, better-for-you kids' nutrition company, and explains her role as shaping People & Culture to scale the organization while maintaining a values-driven culture.
Bracken Darrell - CEO at VF Corporation
Q: Is there a concrete playbook you follow for scaling a multi-brand company?
I don't have a rigid formula, but I use frameworks around seeds, plants, and trees to balance experimentation with core stability and emphasize small, autonomous teams to avoid gravity pulling resources away from new ventures.
Bracken Darrell - CEO at VF Corporation
Q: Like how would you describe yourself in three words?
Three words aren't enough; I'd describe myself as excited about life, focused on making a difference, and driven by optimism and connection with people.
Wynn Austin - Founder of Wynn’s Kitchen
Q: What would surprise someone stepping into Wynn's Kitchen for a week?
They would likely be surprised by how hands-on Wynn remains—packing jars, labeling, and coordinating every step herself when needed, which underscores the gritty, do-it-yourself ethos of the business.
