  • Really wanted to like this...

but would be far more helpful jump right to the point(s) of the episode.

I had to turn it off although I really wanted the content. So much preliminary chit chat from the host about her outside activities, conferences, all stuff unrelated to the reason we tuning in. Why would I want to sit through this? I’m not a long time listener fascinated by her personal stories (sorry!!).

  • Took my Crazy to Calm

As a parent of a high performing 7th grader, I want to make sure her experience with her college search and acceptance isn’t hindered by my lack of knowledge of the process. Playing these podcasts and listening to ALL of them (regardless of if I think they are highly relevant right now) has given me a sense of calm that I am in the know AND that she’ll find her path and perfect college ... that we can afford. Knowing we are prepared BEFORE she selects her path in high school gives me a sense of ... more

  • The College Checklist Podcast

This particular podcast, hosted by Lauren Gaggioli, dealt with scholarships and being debt free. It was informative and very helpful. The young lady being interviewed was able to find and win enough scholarship money to pay for her undergraduate and graduate studies. This gives me hope for my twins who are graduating this year.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Applying to Military Academies and ROTC with Lisa Rielage
Q: Would it be bad for a student to perhaps tell them that they do have a backup plan in case they don't get into this particular program?
It's perfectly fine to talk about backup plans, but students should project excitement about the program they are interviewing for, as no one wants to feel like a backup choice.
Applying to Military Academies and ROTC with Lisa Rielage
Q: What is the admissions process look like, for example, with the academies?
Students need to start preparing their applications as early as junior year, particularly for summer leadership programs, and secure a nomination, which involves a completely separate application process.
Making College Affordable with Peg Keough from College Aid Pro
Q: What should parents know about merit-based aid?
Merit-based aid is often decided alongside admissions, so a strong application is essential; schools might automatically consider students for certain scholarships if they meet application deadlines.
Making College Affordable with Peg Keough from College Aid Pro
Q: What can families do right now to submit for need-based aid?
Families should fill out the CSS profile if applicable and submit the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available to not miss out on any potential aid.
