  • Great podcast

I’ve greatly enjoyed this podcast. I have high-performing junior in high school, so it’s helpful to hear admission counselors from so many wonderful universities. It’s far different from college admissions 30 years ago! I especially enjoy the student interviews.

  • Very Helpful!

John is a wonderful host who asks thoughtful and leading questions. Many of his guests work in admissions for highly competitive colleges/universities. These interviews provide incredibly helpful insight into the culture of the school, what types of students “thrive” in the institution, and the overall admissions process. Thank you! (parent)

  • Nothing that most don’t already know

The content is very repetitive and rarely is there any info that most don’t already know. The host’s constant giggling is very annoying, making it hard to listen to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

376. What Admissions Officers Really Look For | Inside Nazareth University Admissions
Q: What are Nazareth's top three pieces of advice for students preparing for the admissions process?
Do thorough research beyond rankings, start the essay and activity lists early to refine their story, and actively engage with colleges through visits, virtual tours, and direct communication to ensure accurate information and fit.
376. What Admissions Officers Really Look For | Inside Nazareth University Admissions
Q: What makes an essay authentic and compelling, and what should admissions officers be looking to learn from it that's not found elsewhere?
Authenticity shows the student's voice and personal narrative beyond grades and activities; effective essays tie the student's experiences to future goals, with a strong opening hook and avoiding overused topics, while illustrating a clear through-line from high school to college ambitions.
376. What Admissions Officers Really Look For | Inside Nazareth University Admissions
Q: How should students decide whether to submit test scores given Nazareth's test-optional policy and program requirements?
Average scores hint at a baseline, but Nazareth is open to test scores if they strengthen the application, particularly for STEM-heavy programs; for many programs, test scores are optional, but context from the student's high school, the chosen major, and personal achievements can guide the decision.
376. What Admissions Officers Really Look For | Inside Nazareth University Admissions
Q: Nazareth offers multiple application options. How should students think about application timing, and is there an advantage to applying earlier?
There are benefits to both paths: early action can speed up decisions and provide earlier notification, while early decision offers more housing options and sometimes more financial aid flexibility in programs with fixed capacity; overall, applying early gives students more time to consider options and respond to offers.
375. Inside Denison University Admissions: What Applicants Should Know
Q: What is unique about Denison's approach to GPA and coursework evaluation?
Denison recalculate GPAs to standardize across different high schools, separating rigor from grades, and they assess the most demanding curriculum available to the student while recognizing school-specific contexts.
