James Walton writes well, but speaks with such a rapid delivery and lack of clear enunciation that it was extremely difficult to understand him on this podcast. I had to give up the struggle.
I often avoid Booker winning novels, my prejudice was that the short-listed novels are pretentious and dry. This podcast proves me wrong. I’ve really enjoyed the Oscar episodes and the recent Booker vs. Bookies. I’m listening to every episode now.
This is the only podcast I listen to religiously. Well done.
This is such a fun podcast to listen to. I love how they have different tastes in books yet discuss everything so thoroughly.
This is my favourite podcast. I started reading all the BPWs in chronological order last winter (I’m up to 1982) and James/Jo have been the best literary companions. I love the way they riff off each other and how they weave in their own analysis and interpretation without intellectual snobbery or being patronising. Love the “thesis/antithesis/synthesis” structure identified by James. I see it everywhere now! Thank you
