Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Book of Joe: 'Make Me Commissioner' author Jane Leavy
Q: How do you interpret the increased viewership numbers for Major League Baseball this season?
While there are increases in viewership, they should be scrutinized beyond surface numbers to understand true engagement with the sport.
The Book of Joe: 'Make Me Commissioner' author Jane Leavy
Q: Jane, about going forward here, is this good or should baseball be concerned about how people are connecting to the game in a very different way?
Baseball should absolutely be concerned, as many fans now attend only once or twice a year, influenced more by events than allegiance to teams or players.
The Book of Joe: The Bats of Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber
Q: What do you see of Juan Soto this first quarter of the season?
Joe discusses Soto's struggles, noting diminished bat speed and timing issues, while indicating he believes Soto will eventually bounce back.
The Book of Joe: Who are the 'Chiefs' of Baseball?
Q: What does that mean for the 30 teams when they build a team going into the season?
It indicates a shift in baseball strategy towards contingency planning, focusing on adaptability rather than solely aiming for a high win total from the start.
The Book of Joe: The Future of MLB in Tampa, Paul Skenes, and Dream Jobs
Q: Is there such a thing as throwing too hard?
Yes, there is a correlation between throwing velocity and injury risk. While it's essential for pitchers to maintain velocity, excessive strain can lead to injuries, making it crucial to monitor their physical condition closely.
