“This is a town where there are three pastimes: politics, sports and revenge.” The town is Boston.
Seemingly dry topics become gripping political dramas in this Peabody Award winning show from creator Ian Coss and GBH News. Each season of “The Big Dig” uncovers a different facet of society – infrastructure, gambling, food, healthcare – together the pieces connect to tell the story of modern Americ... more

How do these things all connect: Wu-Tang Clan, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, and the largest garbage dump in the world? That story is the subject of a new series from the podcast Revisionist History called “The Staten Island Problem.” The series recon... more
Our show now has three seasons in the feed, and it just dawned on Ian that every topic we’ve covered also happens to be a rich topic in American song: highways, gambling, and fishing. So today we share a special playlist curated by singer, songwriter... more

Honest, not slanted so good
I love this show. It changed the way I look at cities and highways, the lottery, and the fishing industry. I wish I could have a similar podcast for the city I live in!
Fascinating, superb research and journalism.
Enjoying hearing about all the local struggles to make big changes to interstate highways. I would love to hear an episode about Oklahoma City and the re-route of I 40 at the downtown. The new developments in the old footprint of the bridge are phenomenal.
I listened to the 1st season of the Big Dig podcast, and fell in love with my city all over again. I grew up in Massachusetts and was taught to be a Boston driver by navigating “the squeeze” as my dad called it. I lived here when the highway was elevated and after it was taken down. But there was so much I didn’t know about it until I listened to your podcast. It was fascinating, frustrating, inspiring, and so good! I didn’t want it to end. Please keep sharing more stories like this. I’m complet... more

The show explores large-scale public projects and policy through deeply reported, narrative storytelling. Recent episodes center on urban highway removal, caps and covers, and transportation equity, with on-the-ground voices from activists, journalists, and municipal officials. Across seasons, the host threads together historical context, civic decision-making, and human impact, turning technical infrastructure topics into gripping human stories. Notable is the approach of weaving archival material, local perspectives, and broader national patterns to illuminate how cities rethink mobility, climate concerns, and community resilience. A standout trait is its veteran storytelling voice, strong investigative rigor, and a clear focus on how pol... more
