  • The best of the money show

I would give this a 5 star if it was not for the admin issues with this podcast. Every few weeks all these episodes do not appear on this podcast but on his "Money Show" podcast. Then I use his full show on his other podcast, "Money Show", and then they decide to play all the episodes on "The Best of the money show" podcast again. This has been going on for years. Makes a person crazy. Wake up and fire whoever is managing you podcasts.

RCL FOODS navigates sugar market turmoil amid drive for efficiency
Q: And the situation has sort of changed around you and the industry. What kind of system do you think would be fair to you as a sugar producer?
A more dynamic pricing mechanism tied to inflation, with movement in the dollar-based reference price to reflect cost pressures, could create a balance between protecting the industry and providing affordable sugar to customers.
RCL FOODS navigates sugar market turmoil amid drive for efficiency
Q: I presume this wouldn't happen if exporters didn't produce sugar for a lower price than we did. Why? What's happening in our markets or in our economy that's making our sugar more expensive than the sugar that's imported?
International sugar trades on export parity with a world surplus, and many countries protect their domestic industries to avoid dumping; the SA market faces similar pressures from global price dynamics and scale advantages enjoyed by exporters like Brazil.
RCL FOODS navigates sugar market turmoil amid drive for efficiency
Q: You produce sugar. We've seen a huge surge in sugar imports into the country. What's that doing to your operations?
Imports are displacing local sales and creating lost revenue across the industry, though our own sugar operation remains operationally sound; the main challenge is managing the price and competition from lower-cost imports.
Business Book Review: Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order by Ray Dalio
Q: Ian, good evening. This book was written in 2021; do the principles Dalio lays out still hold given how much has changed since then?
Ian Mann explains that the book was a thorough framework, but the book's core cycles are shown to be enduring; the question is how adaptable the specific projections are to current events, with AI and other modern dynamics acting as accelerants or modifiers rather than overturning the basic cycle concept.
Festive demand powers Shoprite’s R9.2bn revenue boost
Q: Pieter, good evening. You were able to increase your sales quite strongly; what were the main drivers behind this momentum?
The key drivers were low inflation benefiting consumers, genuine volume growth, and a larger customer base. We gained about 1.2 million extra customers per week over six months, with deflation on many items helping households stretch budgets even as costs rose elsewhere.
