  • Fish and History

Great Podcast! I’ve really been enjoying the shows on the history of the Aquarium trade. Has Joe Ferdenzi been to Paradise Aquarium in Queens NY. It has been open since 1947.

  • Started out pretty good. Not the best but far from the worst. Now it is an hour long infomercial for Aquarium COOP. Starts with 20 minutes of "favorite products" and every single guest is a coop affiliate. Cory has been on 8 episodes and lately, every single episode is a direct financial benefit to the COOP. This podcast had potential, and COOP corrupted it like a cancer.

Ep. 118 - Anthony Armata on Breeding Fish and The Daku Method
Q: What does maintenance look like for you now?
Automatic water changes are critical to scale and for maintenance, most of my planted tanks are self-sustaining with water changes, requiring scraping the glass and siphoning any excessive mold.
Ep. 118 - Anthony Armata on Breeding Fish and The Daku Method
Q: Can you give us your origin story of how did you get to the point where you have this wild name of Daku Aquatics?
I've always been into fish tanks. From a very early age, it was the first thing I wanted. I grew up with the standard 10-gallon, loaded up with a pleco and tetras. Life happened but got back into it once I got into my house, and now I'm up to 175 tanks.
Ep. 116 - Dr. James Albert: Passionate Aquarist, Distinguished Professor, and Leading Researcher
Q: Is there anything that you've uncovered in your research that could be an 'aha' for home aquarists?
There are no boring projects in nature, and even the least colorful fish like Tryportheus are fascinating once you start studying them.
Ep. 116 - Dr. James Albert: Passionate Aquarist, Distinguished Professor, and Leading Researcher
Q: How do you feel about the availability of plants and fish now for the hobby versus when you were a kid?
It's a night and day. What's available out there now is so much more incredible. You can get almost anything in the mail.
Ep. 116 - Dr. James Albert: Passionate Aquarist, Distinguished Professor, and Leading Researcher
Q: Can we kind of unpack your evolution as a fish tank keeper? What did that look like?
I got into all the really primitive fishes. I loved lung fishes and gar, and I always wanted to fill the tank from the bottom to the top with different species.
