As a student of sociology I thought this was going to be amazing but many of the episodes are more about religion and gossip than anything.
This podcast helped me stay motivated and connected to the sociology world when I was finishing graduate school. The banter items are really interesting and provide fresh insight into what’s happening out in the world. I also like being exposed to sociologists whose work is relevant, come from a variety of institutions, and are at different stages in their career.
I rely on The Annex to keep me current on topics in sociology and beyond, including exposure to interesting new work. Listening is part of my continuing education. Kudos to the crew for their pioneering work in sociology podcasting!
Love the topics being discussed. During the discussion a lot of extra information is thrown in, that I enjoy. It would be good to be a little more disciplined on the topic at hand...also, do not name drop please. Those of us who do not know Sociology will be lost as to what that reference means.. The banter between the 3 hosts is good, but there is sometimes too much of a good thing.
Was really excited to hear the episode on cancel culture... was expecting a sociological analysis, but the entire episode was essentially celebrity gossip. No academic angle applied at all. The hosts are entertaining, but the show description makes false promises.
