Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Peri-operative management of adults taking GLP-1 receptor agonists, GIP agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors
Q: Why do we care about any of this in the perioperative setting?
GLP-1s slow down gastric emptying, increasing the risk of pulmonary aspiration during surgery.
Peri-operative management of adults taking GLP-1 receptor agonists, GIP agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors
Q: Can you tell me about these drugs and how they work?
They are hormones that we are all familiar with in our everyday physiological lives when we want to eat. They mimic the actions of these endogenous hormones to improve diabetes control and aid weight loss.
January 2024 with Dr Craig Lyons
Q: Do you think this will be a useful historical cohort on which we're able to look back at perhaps in the future?
Somewhat; it provides checkpoints against which changes can be measured, but reliable comparisons are tricky during evolving practices.
January 2024 with Dr Craig Lyons
Q: What for you were the main clinical take home messages from this paper?
The evidence falls a bit flat for fascia plane blocks and whilst they might bring a little benefit within a broad pain regimen, they're not transformative for patients, it's the minimally invasive surgery that is the transformative part.
January 2024 with Dr Craig Lyons
Q: What do you think about the powering of the study?
I think the powering was appropriate; they based their powering on a previous study and accommodated the ability to look at a subgroup based on body mass index.
