  • Great podcast but sound quality terrible

This is consistently an interesting & useful

Podcast. I just wish the sound quality was not all over the place. Listening on earbuds I’m frequently adjusting volume up or down from speaker to speaker to theme music. If the sound quality was levelled out it would be a much better listen.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 287: Gabrielle Pavicic, GBCA's emerging leader in sustainable design on reshaping how the built environment approaches sustainability
Q: What gives you the most optimism about the future of sustainable design in Australia?
Seeing widespread passion and willingness to change among professionals, the ability to unite various disciplines toward shared goals, and the anticipation of practical tools like GreenStuff that enable better decision-making.
Episode 287: Gabrielle Pavicic, GBCA's emerging leader in sustainable design on reshaping how the built environment approaches sustainability
Q: What was the biggest challenge in translating circular economy principles into a practical, scalable rating system like Green Star Interiors?
The challenge is balancing ambitious circularity with what is realistically achievable on projects, avoiding over-technical perfection, and focusing on simple starting points that can be implemented widely.
Episode 287: Gabrielle Pavicic, GBCA's emerging leader in sustainable design on reshaping how the built environment approaches sustainability
Q: Okay, so you began your career in architecture and interior design, which is a good mix. How has that hands-on design background shaped the way you approach sustainability at a systems and policy level?
The hands-on experience provides a real understanding of on-site challenges, informs how to scale improvements beyond individual projects, and helps bridge the gap between design decisions and systemic change across the industry.
Episode 286: Reviewing 40 Years of Architecture with Ed Lippmann
Q: What personal practices sustain your creativity over four decades?
Persistent practice, meditation, and a clear sense of purpose help manage stress and maintain focus on contributing to the common good through architecture.
Episode 286: Reviewing 40 Years of Architecture with Ed Lippmann
Q: How do you view the role of technology in architecture—useful tool or risk of overshadowing traditional craft?
Technology should augment rather than replace thoughtful design. Hand drawing and a tactile engagement with form remain crucial early in the process, while CAD and AI can expand capabilities—so the key is not to let tools dictate outcomes but to use them to enhance human-centered design.
