Talkin' Slayer tells the story of Slayer, the thrashiest of the Big Four thrash metal bands. After some introduction episodes, this weekly show recaps the history of the Los Angeles heavy metal institution, in chronological order: how the band happened, when things fell apart, how they put them back together, and what it all meant—no, MEANS. After Episode 9, Patreon supporters receive every weekly... more

This is not an episode. Not a proper episode. But...
Today’s topic is some absolutely killer, very old Slayer footage that is bustin’ out all over the internet. This is probably the best Slayer video I have ever seen. And I’ve seen most of it.

Loved the books and now happy to be able to devour the podcast. Ferris is the guy who has your Slayer answers.
A companion piece to his excellent book, on each episode DX takes us through the history of these thrash metal legends. Essential listen for fans of the band or the genre.
Ferris has forgotten more about Slayer and Metal than I’ll ever know. 10/10. Or 5/5 I guess.
The host DX Ferris has two fantastic books on Slayer. The first one dedicated specifically to their legendary metal music landmark album “Reign in Blood” and the second one is the extensive biography of the band.
This podcast is the updated and extended audio version of that second book (which is quite obvious from podcast description).
I’ve read both of his Slayer books somewhere around 2014-2015 and now I’m enjoying this audio revisit. The host announced that the plan is to tell the story of t... more
Clearly a labor of love, the host is obviously a fan but that can’t save this podcast from being rambling and surprisingly low on actual content. Most die hard slayer fans aren’t going to find much new. This band is in dire need of a great podcast, unfortunately this one is very underbaked. Id love to see an editor and producer brought on board. To me, this is like a demo tape of a podcast and it’s a shame.

A deeply researched, long-form storytelling podcast that chronicles Slayer's history from its early scene roots through its peak years and ongoing legacy. Across episodes, listeners get origin stories, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, archival footage analysis, and connective tissue to Slayer's broader cultural impact, including book projects, audiobooks, and season-long narrative arcs. Noteworthy is the creator's provenance as a biographer and historian of Slayer, the heavy use of primary sources and interviews, and a clear throughline that ties fan culture, media coverage, and the band's evolving identity into a cohesive narrative. The show often blends scholarly context with passionate, sometimes humorous fan perspective, making it particula... more
