In this episode, we were convinced by J. Robert Oppenheimer’s elevator pitch to join the Manhattan Project so we watched the movie Oppenheimer (2023). How well did Christopher Nolan capture the life and tribulations of the “father of the atomic bomb?... more
In this episode, we gassed up our Landmaster 16-wheeled RV and hit the open roads to the drive-in theater to watch Damnation Alley (1977). How did this post-nuclear war road trip movie challenge its characters with radioactive landscapes and killer c... more
In this episode, we count our blessings we survived a nuclear war long enough to watch the movie Five (1951) about a small group of people trying to rebuild civilization after radioactive fallout kills everyone else. This is the first movie showing a... more

Hosts and guests are simultaneously whimsically entertaining and clearly incredibly informed on both movie/pop cultural trivia and nuclear politics.
This podcast deep dives into all sorts of nuclear-themed pop culture. I stumbled across it a few days ago on YouTube after searching for reviews of Threads (1984) and haven’t stopped listening since. It’s really engaging, informative, and entertaining. A must-listen for those interested in all things A-bomb related.

Lots of spoilers and deep analysis of how the nuclear issues are portrayed against how they are in reality... more
I love the USP of this show. Lots of other film review podcasts do the hardcore film criticism and the deep dives into actors, directors and writers. But there's only one podcast where you can get the science behind a whole bunch of films delivered to you in an informative, friendly and funny way.
Tim Westmyer is a clear authority on the topic of nuclear arms, doctrine and policy. His various guests range from those well-versed in nuclear niches through experts on pop culture to interested bystanders. Whether its bringing an expert's eye for detail or the 'fresh eyes' insight that can only come from a lay-person, it is bundled together in a detailed analysis of how and why the world's most destructive weapons are portrayed in pop culture, and what the truth is behind the fiction. In times... more
