  • Absolutely fantastic podcast

I am a recent returner to analogue photography and was delighted to find this podcast. It’s interesting and informative and feeds my need for information that is essential in the early days of a hobby. I’ve got me an FM2 and and MTL5, bought Ilford (and Kodak) from Analogue Wonderland and I’m ready for and summer of intent. Thanks 👍

  • Easy listen

This is the first podcast I’ve ever reviewed, it’s so good I had to leave a review! A self proclaimed non-factual podcast, it’s a easy listen to and has been my go to podcast for the last couple of months! I’m 55 episodes in, nearing 100 hours of listening to Graeme and Ade waffle on and I’m thoroughly enjoying it, special shout out to the Justin Quinnell episode #47, if you only listen to one episode, make sure it’s that one!!

  • enough of the touchy feely and mediocrity

This used to be one of my favourite podcasts. The celebration of mediocrity became a total yawn fest. Crap film, crap cameras, basically any old crap process. Now I listen only to the episodes when it’s just Graeme and John. They are brilliant but all too seldom.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 376 Boxx Clever
Q: How does the Boxx handle focusing and shutter considerations?
The Boxx uses non-traditional focusing via the adjustable lens assembly, with no conventional internal shutter; exposure is achieved by counting or timing and the lens cap acts as the shutter. There's discussion of potential gravity shutters as a future add-on if demand justifies.
Ep. 376 Boxx Clever
Q: What lenses are available at launch and how do they relate to typical focal lengths?
There are three focal options: 100 mm for portraits, 55 mm as a mid-wide option, and a 65 mm pinhole. The 100 mm corresponds roughly to a 50 mm on 35mm film, while the 55 mm is akin to around 30 mm, giving users versatile focal coverage within the Boxx's 6x9 format.
Ep. 376 Boxx Clever
Q: Tell us about the Alfie Boxx Camera.
Dave explains that the Boxx is a compact wooden box camera with three designed lenses, a ground-glass focusing screen, and a self-contained pocket darkroom for black-and-white reversal development, all aimed at letting users experience the full photographic process.
Ep. 358 Soft Backed Photobook
Q: Did you find a piece of writing or did you write something yourself and then go, okay, this is going to carry me forward?
The writing came afterwards for me, as it usually does.
Ep. 358 Soft Backed Photobook
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about how that editorial torch has been passed to you?
It was difficult because it was a collaborative job, and I had to ensure the theme flowed well throughout the book.
