Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sunday Baroque Conversations 134: Simone Dinnerstein 2025
Q: What is it about Bach's music that keeps you drawn to it, and how has that pull evolved over the years?
Bach's music speaks through every line as though it is always singing, with an equality of voices where no single line dominates; the music remains compelling because it invites multiple interpretations and personal connections, which has grown more nuanced as I work with Baroklyn and explore new repertoire.
Sunday Baroque Conversations 134: Simone Dinnerstein 2025
Q: So, congratulations on the release of this new recording. Let's first start by talking about how your family was complicit, if you will, in this production.
Family involvement became a meaningful thread in the project, with my father contributing the cover artwork and my son Adrian inspiring the title Complicité, which underscores collaboration and shared creative process that runs through the whole album.
Sunday Baroque Conversations 131: Eric Milnes
Q: Yeah. So I have a question. So you talked about, you've alluded to this a little bit, but the singers, the chorus, is not necessarily a full-time professional group. How is it different working with amateur musicians than from working with professionals, and how is it the same?
Milnes explains that the festival choir operates with three components: international professionals, regional professionals, and highly capable amateurs who rehearse intensely and are fully integrated into the ensemble, emphasizing careful selection and immersive preparation to achieve professional-level results.
Sunday Baroque Conversations 133: Matthew Suttor
Q: What is creativity and how does one teach it?
Creativity is a process that involves combinatorial play, design-led exploration, and a willingness to generate a large volume of ideas, then curate and refine them through collaborative practice, rather than waiting for perfect ideas to emerge.
Sunday Baroque Conversations 135: Vladimir Soares
Q: Do you have family members who are musicians? And is that how you were interested in learning music?
He says he was the only musician in his family and attributes his start to personal interest sparked by peers and exposure to music, rather than family tradition.
