  • Everything Minnesota Sports is Here

Great show. Covers the gamut. Good guests. Michael, one pet peeve: please learn to stop repeating yourself. You don’t need to say the exact sentence or phrase immediately after you just say it. You’d never write a column that way; please don’t do a pod cast that way.

  • Good host, guests hit and miss

Michael Rand is consistently good, but some of his Strib guests are far better at writing than they are at speaking. I would put Pat Reusse and Cassidy Hettesheimer in that category.

  • Best MN sports show

I absolutely love this podcast. Have listened religiously for about 3 years. I’m an ex pat but grew up on all the MN teams and Randball helps keep me up to date. Reusse Mondays are the best!

  • Great Show But…

I love the Show look forward to it every day but the Poetry segment needs to go. Luckily I can click on ‘Transcript’ and avoid it while listening. Don’t get rid of Reusse, his frank and biting comments are appreciated.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Details on the Wild's new TV plan; Gophers romp, but what does it mean?
Q: How does access through Prime Video work and do fans need an extra Prime subscription?
Fans do not need a separate Amazon Prime subscription to access Wild games; they can use an Amazon account with the Wild subscription running through that framework, though some teams may have different setups.
Details on the Wild's new TV plan; Gophers romp, but what does it mean?
Q: What will the price be for the standalone Wild streaming product and how does that compare to what fans might pay for bundles or other teams?
The standalone product is pitched at $19.99 per month or $100 per year, with the rationale that this pricing supports a viable revenue model while remaining affordable for dedicated fans who want access to the Wild outside of traditional cable packages.
Where do the Gophers and St. Thomas fit into the big-money college sports world?
Q: Where might the college sports model settle in given ongoing changes, and what about Save College Sports Act politics?
The host and Brown discuss that predicting the exact settlement is difficult, with temporary measures proposed, such as a limited antitrust exemption for enforcing five‑and‑five rules and the house settlement incentives, while broader reform remains uncertain and slow due to political calendars.
Where do the Gophers and St. Thomas fit into the big-money college sports world?
Q: What should a program like the Minnesota Golden Gophers aim to achieve in the current landscape?
They should aim to be meaningfully competitive in big rivalry games, be in the playoff conversation a few times a decade, and avoid trying to replicate a top program's exact path; instead, they should innovate within their budget and roster constraints.
Ex-Viking Ben Leber on quarterbacks, emerging players and when it's time to retire
Q: What do you want to see from Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy between now and September 13th?
Leber emphasizes seeing them play with anticipation, develop chemistry with the offense, and demonstrate that they can drive the offense efficiently under pressure, with a focus on reading defenses and exploiting openings in practice and preseason games.
