  • Good host, guests hit and miss

Michael Rand is consistently good, but some of his Strib guests are far better at writing than they are at speaking. I would put Pat Reusse and Cassidy Hettesheimer in that category.

  • Best MN sports show

I absolutely love this podcast. Have listened religiously for about 3 years. I’m an ex pat but grew up on all the MN teams and Randball helps keep me up to date. Reusse Mondays are the best!

  • Great Show But…

I love the Show look forward to it every day but the Poetry segment needs to go. Luckily I can click on ‘Transcript’ and avoid it while listening. Don’t get rid of Reusse, his frank and biting comments are appreciated.

  • Vikings Poetry? Really?

Like the show generally but the Vikings Poetry segment is a total waste of time. Poetry on a sports podcast? Seriously? Stay off my yard.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A tiebreaker year for Kevin O'Connell; Bobby Nightengale on the Twins, trade deadline
Q: How would trading Joe Ryan affect their plans for 2027 and beyond?
Trading Joe Ryan would require a clear signal that they're prioritizing the future, but it could set back immediate pitching depth; the team would need solid alternatives in the wings to justify such a move.
A tiebreaker year for Kevin O'Connell; Bobby Nightengale on the Twins, trade deadline
Q: What are the most likely targets or moves you think they would consider?
Possible moves include bullpen reinforcement and adding a starter to deepen rotation, with a potential trade of a pending free agent like Ryan Jeffers if the return aligns with long-term goals.
A tiebreaker year for Kevin O'Connell; Bobby Nightengale on the Twins, trade deadline
Q: Where do you think they stand right now in terms of buyers vs. sellers?
The Twins are leaning toward a buy-sell balance, aiming to shore up depth without mortgaging future core players, and they may keep discussing options into the late deadline while evaluating non-core pieces.
What if the Wild already have a No. 1 center? + World Cup is over, Loons are back
Q: What's the path for Loons to become more than 'okay' this season?
They need to keep developing players who can jump from good to exceptional, such as pushing Oluwasheyi-like players to star status, while adding a top-tier signing if possible to elevate the ceiling beyond just playoff contention.
What if the Wild already have a No. 1 center? + World Cup is over, Loons are back
Q: Tell me more about MLS academies and Minnesota United's place in that model.
The MLS is pushing to develop players through stronger academy infrastructure, but the effectiveness varies by market. Minnesota's population and resources present unique challenges compared to LA or Dallas, and success will require sustained investment and a pipeline that can feed top-level players to the first team.
