  • Good host, guests hit and miss

Michael Rand is consistently good, but some of his Strib guests are far better at writing than they are at speaking. I would put Pat Reusse and Cassidy Hettesheimer in that category.

  • Best MN sports show

I absolutely love this podcast. Have listened religiously for about 3 years. I’m an ex pat but grew up on all the MN teams and Randball helps keep me up to date. Reusse Mondays are the best!

  • Great Show But…

I love the Show look forward to it every day but the Poetry segment needs to go. Luckily I can click on ‘Transcript’ and avoid it while listening. Don’t get rid of Reusse, his frank and biting comments are appreciated.

  • Vikings Poetry? Really?

Like the show generally but the Vikings Poetry segment is a total waste of time. Poetry on a sports podcast? Seriously? Stay off my yard.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Chris Hine on the Wolves' offseason; Another intriguing QB option for Vikings?
Q: Could the team pursue a 'gap year' to reset around the young core, and what would that look like?
A gap year would involve retooling the roster to emphasize development for Ant and the rest of the young core, potentially trading veterans for assets, and possibly reconfiguring roles to maximize growth while staying competitive.
Chris Hine on the Wolves' offseason; Another intriguing QB option for Vikings?
Q: What is the immediate draft strategy for the Timberwolves with the 28th pick and late second-round selections?
The consensus is to consider both staying at 28 for a potential impact player and exploring options to move up or back based on how much value they can extract, while recognizing the draft's unpredictable nature and the club's history of strategic moves.
Vikings quarterbacks, a key Wild signing and La Velle E. Neal III on the World Cup
Q: Final thing on soccer before we transition to Vikings and Twins, what's a minimum expectation for Team USA?
The hosts discuss that Team USA should aim to advance from the group stage and at least win one knockout game; being in the mix and showing progress against tougher opponents is framed as a reasonable target, given the team's current transition and home-field advantage.
Ben Goessling on Vikings QBs and new GM; Olivia Miles reaches new level for Lynx
Q: What stood out to you from the introduction of the new GM and the quarterback situation?
Ben Goessling highlights Teasley's pedigree, the Seahawks-era influence, and the push to balance roster-building with quarterback evaluation, suggesting the Vikings will pursue stability and a smart draft approach rather than quick-fire overhauls.
Aaron Gleeman on the Twins and leaving The Athletic; Who steps up for Wolves in Game 6?
Q: What was the thought process behind leaving The Athletic and starting aarongleeman.com again?
Aaron explains that after seven years at The Athletic, he realized his passion was reporting and analyzing the Twins through his own lens, returning to his roots with a subscriber-based site to preserve his brand and audience, despite the risk.
