  • Sean is not kind, unlike the YouTube channel.

I wish the podcast host Sean Ferrell was as kind as Matt Ferrell. I thought the podcast would be informative and kind as Matt’s YouTube channel, but Sean’s old school toxic masculinity vibes make both shows very different, even though the topics discussed are the same.

  • Great for after YT or standalone

I like Matt’s videos a lot and so I started listening to the podcast while doing chores. The banter is usually entertaining between Matt and Sean, and Sean adds an outside perspective which is pleasant. The podcasts usually feel like a nice addition or cherry on top to the videos with little or lots of insights

If they let me play Time Crisis from PlayStation and all those shooting games from Duck Hunt to House of the Dead to Point Blank to Red Steel I’d finance Tim Cook’s retirement. For work I’ve already have too many screens.

  • Fun Discussion

Vertical solar panels! Great! Put them everywhere and see what happens. Hands-on usually works better than pencil and paper.

Are EVs better than dinosaur burners? Sure. Just get behind a smelly diesel in traffic and see. Power plants can be cleaned up more easily than a million individual vehicles, too. And I HATE wasting time at gas stations in nasty weather!

There is an environmental cist to manufacturing EVs. But you are eliminating some coal mines and oil wells at the same time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

306: Is This Finally a Real Solid State Battery? With Jorge Diaz Scheider
Q: What is your long-term plan for scaling—vertical integration or licensing the ceramic to partners?
Ion Storage Systems plans a capital-light, licensing-friendly approach that focuses on making more of the ceramic and positioning it as a drop-in solution for existing lithium battery facilities, rather than building massive gigafactories; they aim to keep Beltsville as a Center of Excellence while expanding closer to customers.
306: Is This Finally a Real Solid State Battery? With Jorge Diaz Scheider
Q: Could you walk through how your battery works and what makes it different from the competition?
The battery is ceramic-based and anode-less with a dense ceramic separator and a porous layer that allows lithium plating and de-plating without swelling or needing pressure, which differentiates it from many solid-state concepts and suggests better safety and integration with consumer electronics.
293: Sodium Battery Fade
Q: What do you think about the impact of investor patience on technology development?
The pressure from investors for immediate results can hinder long-term technological investments and development, which might be why Western companies struggle compared to those in China that have better financial backing for extended projects.
293: Sodium Battery Fade
Q: What advantages do sodium batteries have over lithium batteries?
Sodium batteries are considered safer as they do not pose the same risk of bursting into flames as lithium batteries; they also are expected to become cheaper to manufacture, making them a viable alternative.
285: Heat Pump It Up! Geothermal 2 Years Later
Q: Did they go as well as you planned? What sort of headaches did you have that didn't really impact the data of the experience?
Yes, the numbers are working out exactly like I expected, but it's more about the user experience, that there are differences.
