  • Sports commentators who listen

I'll share a short tale to describe why this podcast is the most refreshing sports commentary I've heard. Chris, the host, has strong opinions as would be expected of someone who professionally comments on white sox current events. However, he doesn't defend his opinions as though they were his children, as is most common on sports radio. I actually heard him respond to a different opinion from his wing-man, Ed, once, "You know, I never thought of it that way. I think you might be right." This ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Trade Deadline (And Postseason Push) Beckons To White Sox
Q: Sam, what do you think is going to happen between now and the trade deadline, especially around starting pitching and catching?
Sam Phalen suggests the White Sox are likely to target a starting pitcher with money on the contract and potentially a catcher, weighing the trade-off between controllable prospects and immediate needs, while noting the market tends to move in a domino effect as teams announce offers and counteroffers.
How Did The White Sox Get Here?
Q: What is the most important factor in shaping the upcoming draft for the White Sox?
The dominant view is that Rock Chalowski is the consensus pick, but there is debate about Grady Emerson and other top college and high school talents; the pick remains pivotal for future positional balance and long-term value, with money and bonus pools influencing decisions.
How Did The White Sox Get Here?
Q: How much of an impact do you think the revamped development and scouting infrastructure is making right now?
Fox suggests the integrated approach across hitting, pitching, and analytics, plus bringing in experts from other organizations, has created better alignment and potentially faster development, though pitching remains the biggest short-term challenge.
White Sox May Have A Problem Here
Q: What was the rationale discussed for not promoting Sam Antonacci on the same day as Noah Schultz, and does it reflect a broader promotional strategy?
The hosts suggest it might be a marketing ploy or a calculated, staged 'Antonacci day' designed to manage rookie promotions and commentary, rather than pure baseball logic, implying promotion timing is influenced by public relations and fan engagement just as much as performance.
Coop, Larry and Making Better White Sox Hitters
Q: Can you walk us through what you and Devin did for the White Sox with biomechanical data?
We dug into biomechanical data from Hawkeye to extract insights on hitting, identify undervalued players, and find mechanical changes that could significantly increase bat speed and overall performance, while also being cautious about noise in the data.
