  • IMPOSTER

Thank you guys, really enjoyed the podcast. I am encouraged after hearing that you all have similar misgivings about your talents and have given it a name: Imposter Syndrome. I am 72 and am currently going thru Home Studio Corner recording, mixing and mastering, along with a guitar course, (Guitar Mastery Method) I can hear my inner voice saying at least twice a week, “you should just stop all this nonsense and do something productive, you’re not up to par!”

  • Very good.

A generally useful and normal level talk. It’s like having coffee with your friends who are all growing through the same things you are.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Composer's Quest: Chase Bethea's Journey
Q: What was your favorite project to date, if you can say so?
Bethea reframes the question by highlighting that he hasn't declared a single favorite because his career isn't over yet; he expresses pride in his entire body of work and suggests that the industry's potential to ship quality music remains a priority over chasing a single 'best' project.
Mike Senior Returns!
Q: What was the MVP piece of gear or software for this mega-tracking session?
The MVP was a combination of technique and a reliable, streamlined setup; specifically, a robust, modular control surface from a compact German vendor (Asparion) paired with a straightforward 32-in/32-out AD converter (Ferrofish A32) and a flexible DAW environment that supports fast headphone-mix management and quick rehearsals. The emphasis is on speed, stability, and the ability to reproduce a performance faithfully rather than chasing a perfect on-paper signal chain.
The Sound of Less: Jeremy Steckel’s Minimalist Gear & Workflow
Q: What was your first Pro Tools version?
He started with Pro Tools 10, then moved through the 11 and 12 iterations before switching to the yearly subscription, indicating a long-term adaptation to Pro Tools and preference for its editing capabilities.
Gregor Beyerle on Studio One, Workflows, and the Future of DAWs
Q: What DAW do you primarily use on your setup today?
Gregor explains he uses Studio One for professional work, but also uses Ableton Live and occasionally Pro Tools depending on the context, with a strong emphasis on Studio One as his main workflow for production, mixing, and mastering.
Nate Saggio: Creating With Limits and Intention
Q: How does he balance serving the artist's vision with his own ideas?
He listens to references and tries to understand the artist's goals, communicates what he can offer in his space, and often chooses to implement ideas that align with the song's needs while being ready to pivot or rent additional spaces if the project requires it.
