  • So much Mr Waits

July 2023:One host tries to explain what he loves about the Tom Waits style; the other mainly carps and virtue signals. Creates an interesting tension. The quality of guests’ contribution varies but the regular changeovers at least keep it fresh. Main benefit for me has been to take time and pay much more attention to each individual song. They deserve five stars simply because of the dogged persistence which has got them so far. A brilliant idea to which they’ve been faithful for years.

  • Huh?

Wow, I’ve enjoyed your Tom Waits discussions for what, a few years now, and then we get this over/underrated drivel? and They Might Be Giants over Talking Heads?

I suppose you like OK Go too huh?

Really makes me question everything I’ve heard you discuss, and completely tanked my potential rating. Let’s go for one star shall we?

  • Informative and fun.

I’ve listened since the beginning and there’s always something to pique my interest. Often the hosts place the work in a new context for me.

    Highly recommended.

  • Fantastic Pod

Legitimately one of my favourite podcasts. I’ve been listening for a few years now.

Song by Song transcends the format of normal podcasts by acting as a sort of companion piece to each of Waits’s albums. Sam and Martin have helped me appreciate the stuff I didn’t like before and helped me view from a different angle the songs I already loved.

Brilliant brilliant stuff. Recommended both to lovers of Waits and those who want to get into his work.
