What You Need to See - 2/15/26 by Sokuzan - SokukoJi.org
Q: How can we discern if an impulse to act is from awareness or from a desire to escape the situation?
The indication is the return to stillness and observing the impulse without acting impulsively; the goal is to observe and let awareness guide without grasping at an outcome.
What You Need to See - 2/15/26 by Sokuzan - SokukoJi.org
Q: How do we know we've seen what we need to see?
You don't know in a conventional sense; the indicator is that you stop searching and continuously return to training the mind and the sangha, recognizing that seeing is an ongoing process rather than a final verdict.
What You Need to See - 2/15/26 by Sokuzan - SokukoJi.org
Q: What do we do when what shows up is mundane, like deciding what to have for dinner?
Acknowledge it as a movement in consciousness, observe it without adding stories or judgments, and return to the stillness of awareness; mundane content is still part of the illusion and should be received without clinging to it.
Fire Horse Sermon - 3_1_26 by Sokuzan - SokukoJi.org
Q: What is required to write or embody the Fire Horse in practice?
The essential requirement is the intention to be with the fire energy, while recognizing that each person's approach will differ according to their causes and conditions; keep observing and hold still.
Fire Horse Sermon - 3_1_26 by Sokuzan - SokukoJi.org
Q: Does external action conflict with the practice of receiving the fire horse energy?
External action can arise, but one should first receive and observe, then let any action come from a clear, non-constructed awareness rather than ego-driven pressing force.
