  • Stone Cold

I don’t even want you to begin to listen to you two dorks make fun of Stone Cold. You two wouldn’t and couldn’t even begin to imagine being big enough losers to criticize this movie. Why did you dream of being in a position to make fun of this?

  • Awesome movie pod

One of my favorite movie pods! Found the hosts through Letterboxd and glad that I started listening. The Patreon price is a little steep, but they release four 2-3 (sometimes 5!) hour episodes that are in depth and covering new movies, classics, and older gems. It’s always enjoyable to watch the movies and listen afterwards, regardless of the level of sleaze. Highly recommended.

Great content and hosts, but a majority of their good stuff is behind their Patreon paywall that costs more than some streaming services.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

427 - WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP (1992) + HE GOT GAME (1998) ft. Alex Wong
Q: What were Spike Lee and Ron Shelton aiming to achieve with the sports sequences, and how did they differ?
Shelton leans into a grounded, ritualistic portrayal of street basketball with slow-motion photography that celebrates the sport's culture, while Spike Lee uses operatic music, montage, and documentary-like depth to critique the industry's exploitation and celebrate the sport's beauty.
427 - WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP (1992) + HE GOT GAME (1998) ft. Alex Wong
Q: How did casting influence the performances of Snipes and Harrelson versus other potential leads?
The hosts note that Snipes's natural charisma and athletic background shaped a more kinetic performance, while Harrelson's warmth and humor balanced him; they discuss how Denzel might have altered the dynamic if cast, but agree Snipes and Harrelson uniquely anchor the film's energy.
407 - COFFY (1973) + SET IT OFF (1996) ft. Jayson Buford
Q: What two films have you brought with you this week, and why did you pair these two together?
I have Coffy and I have Set It Off. Two films about systemic injustices in ghetto communities and black communities. Both take place in Los Angeles.
Interview - Christian Gudegast (DEN OF THIEVES, DEN OF THIEVES 2: PANTERA)
Q: We’d actually like to start with your journey kind of leading up to Den Of Thieves.
I can tell you the first one I really remember was Jaws, and then like Kentucky Fried Movie, and then Woody Allen, Manhattan, Raging Bull.
