  • Happy to have discovered this podcast!

This podcast has sparked a lot of curiosity in me regarding trail running and endurance races. The guests usually aren't elite athletes, which I find enjoyable since their experiences juggling training with normal life commitments are often pretty relatable to what many of us face. Looking forward to many more episodes and discovering inspiring runners through this show!

  • Great mostly ultra-running podcast

Great content, interesting guests who are mostly non-elite, with banter that can wander all over, in a good way! Love the PNW focus of some episodes as well.

  • Overwhelmingly underwhelming

If you’re interested in fast food, logo designs, website designs and expert advice on running ultras and directing races from rank amateurs, this is the podcast for you! Never run a 100? No problem neither have these two! You can still pretend you know what it’s like fantasizing about the experience in the alternate reality the hosts exist in! Wanna listen to an hour and half about how the hosts ran a monster 35 mile week? They’ve got you covered! In a word riveting!

  • Running but also more.

These guys are passionate about running-- and that's cool--but I come back weekly for the casual banter, public land advocacy, and no BS attitudes. It's truly enjoyable to hear the variety each week and the hilarious antics around such topics as short shorts, buns, and obnoxious clothing.

  • So Fun

The best part of this podcast is the genuine friendship between the hosts. These guys have great respect for the environment, running and each other. Bravo!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

344: 'We Sold Out the Rio', with Adam Lee
Q: Oh, and you sold out the Rio. Let's celebrate before we get into questions. Congratulations, dude.
Adam confirms the Rio show sold out two weeks in advance, highlighting the festival's growth and the strong community support, and credits Janine for the hard work.
343: 'For That Finish Line Moment', with Renee Janssen
Q: How did Trail Mix Fund start and where is it today?
The Fund began during the pandemic as a response to financial hardship and the need for inclusivity; it now supports many races nationwide with a high approval rate, funded by donations and race add-ons, and has expanded beyond Go Beyond Races.
343: 'For That Finish Line Moment', with Renee Janssen
Q: What motivates you to keep expanding and maintaining the events, given the chaotic schedule?
The motivation comes from a blend of being detail-oriented and living in the moments with runners at the finish line; the payoff is in seeing people finish and the stories that emerge, which keeps the work rewarding.
343: 'For That Finish Line Moment', with Renee Janssen
Q: Can you give a quick rundown of your business and how you got started with Go Beyond Racing?
We started around 15 years ago in the Portland area with Todd coordinating a local race, then expanding to Forest Park and adding more events until we built a sizable schedule with many volunteers; it grew from a two-person operation into a year-round racing ecosystem.
340: 'Shooting From The Hip', with Austin Corbett
Q: How long have you been sort of sitting on this, having had this in the back of your head?
Austin mentioned that it was a couple of months of considering starting his own business in photography.
