  • Happy to have discovered this podcast!

This podcast has sparked a lot of curiosity in me regarding trail running and endurance races. The guests usually aren't elite athletes, which I find enjoyable since their experiences juggling training with normal life commitments are often pretty relatable to what many of us face. Looking forward to many more episodes and discovering inspiring runners through this show!

  • Great mostly ultra-running podcast

Great content, interesting guests who are mostly non-elite, with banter that can wander all over, in a good way! Love the PNW focus of some episodes as well.

  • Overwhelmingly underwhelming

If you’re interested in fast food, logo designs, website designs and expert advice on running ultras and directing races from rank amateurs, this is the podcast for you! Never run a 100? No problem neither have these two! You can still pretend you know what it’s like fantasizing about the experience in the alternate reality the hosts exist in! Wanna listen to an hour and half about how the hosts ran a monster 35 mile week? They’ve got you covered! In a word riveting!

  • Running but also more.

These guys are passionate about running-- and that's cool--but I come back weekly for the casual banter, public land advocacy, and no BS attitudes. It's truly enjoyable to hear the variety each week and the hilarious antics around such topics as short shorts, buns, and obnoxious clothing.

  • So Fun

The best part of this podcast is the genuine friendship between the hosts. These guys have great respect for the environment, running and each other. Bravo!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

353: 'Sky's the Limit', with Etienne Rodriguez
Q: How is the SkyRunner World Series governed in relation to ISF?
ISF acts as the custodial federation with national bodies that oversee rules and certifications; SkyRunner World Series operates with autonomy but must have certified courses and align with ISF criteria to maintain legitimacy and safety.
351: 'Home Field Advantage', with Morgan Elliot
Q: How did you approach the race strategy to balance tempo, pace, and a lead after starting behind Jackson Cole?
He explains sitting behind a lead runner initially, then making a calculated move to pass and accelerate, while managing his own descend performance and mental pressure as the race unfolded.
351: 'Home Field Advantage', with Morgan Elliot
Q: Explain what Sky running entails and what excites you about it beyond trail running at high elevation.
Morgan describes the grit, technical terrain, and the flow state of staying present on rocky ridge lines, emphasizing the thrill and sense of being most alive when navigating unpredictable trails.
349: 'The Art of Ultrarunning', with Ian Sharman
Q: What motivated you to write a book after so many years coaching runners?
I wanted to consolidate practical, repeatable coaching principles into a durable resource that goes beyond the fleeting nature of podcasts and articles, providing a cohesive framework that runners can return to as they train and race.
344: 'We Sold Out the Rio', with Adam Lee
Q: Oh, and you sold out the Rio. Let's celebrate before we get into questions. Congratulations, dude.
Adam confirms the Rio show sold out two weeks in advance, highlighting the festival's growth and the strong community support, and credits Janine for the hard work.
