  • Kudos and Suggestion

Really miss the good ol days when Smoaky regularly interviewed high school coaches and players throughout the Central Texas area and coverage of high school football in general. Your coverage of Baylor football is exemplary and peerless, but listening to the high school coaches and how they develop young men on and off the field was inspiring to me as a fan. Coverage of college football teams outside the Big 12, not so much. Wish you would reconsider for the 2023 football season.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

SMOAK SHOW LIVE! - April 27th, 2026 | 365 Sports
Q: What are your thoughts on the broader impact of NIL deals and the transfer portal on the draft and program-building landscape?
The era has created a talent-rich but uneven landscape where top programs capitalize on transfers and NIL while smaller programs face an uphill battle to retain or attract top players, affecting draft outcomes and conference power dynamics.
SMOAK SHOW LIVE! - April 27th, 2026 | 365 Sports
Q: How might Brendan Sorsby's situation influence Texas Tech's plans for 2026 and beyond?
It's a significant disruption that forces adjustments at quarterback and could alter prep for Will Hammond's recovery, making depth across the roster more critical and reshaping early-season expectations.
SMOAK SHOW LIVE! - April 27th, 2026 | 365 Sports
Q: Eric, what are you seeing for the 2027 quarterback class in terms of depth and top-end potential?
There's a higher floor of good quarterbacks, with about 15 guys who could be top two or three round players, though the distribution will vary by year and injuries or NIL decisions can shift who emerges.
Brendan Sorsby Gambling Scandal Explained by Justin Williams
Q: So Justin, what did he do that was on the up and up for people who might be confused about why that would be illegal, but other sports betting might be allowed?
The distinction hinges on NCAA guidelines about betting on college sports and ensuring athletes are betting legally and in appropriate jurisdictions; UFC betting, for example, can be allowed because UFC is not an NCAA-sanctioned championship sport, whereas betting on college football or basketball would be prohibited.
SMOAK SHOW LIVE! - April 24th, 2026 | 365 Sports
Q: What were Cody Alexander's thoughts on Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence for the Cowboys after the draft?
He described Downs as a perfect fit with high upside and leadership potential, while Lawrence was seen as a rotational defensive piece whose value depends on how well the Cowboys can utilize a more versatile front.
