  • The world (and energy) is not good or bad

Asking the right questions, but in the wrong way. Air conditioning is not good or bad, but it can be used reasonably or extensively, which would make it good or bad.

    Disappointing take on the topic.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Unintended Consequences
Q: Do you think protests are unnecessary to drive change? Or do you think they're just not sufficient?
Protests alone are not sufficient; they may draw attention but don't effectively change the demand for oil.
Temp Agency
Q: What do you say to something like that? Have you tried to have a conversation with the Energy Secretary?
The rejection of the severity of climate change often comes from a place of solution aversion, where people do not want to engage because they fear the implications for their ideology or identity.
Temp Agency
Q: Do you think there's a chance that the transition, the energy transition, could kind of stop the progress that we've made and sort of stay on here, like in a plateau of where we're at in a transition?
The upward trend in CO2 emissions seems to be slowing down, and projections have us meandering along at the same level to the end of the century.
Battle of the Batteries
Q: What does that move tell you about sodium batteries?
It suggests that we are currently on a lithium-ion battery path, but solid-state sodium batteries are worth investigating due to their potential safety benefits.
Battle of the Batteries
Q: What do you make of Spencer shutting down his company?
He demonstrated humility and confidence by recognizing there was no viable path forward for sodium batteries and returned the investment.
