Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ship It Conversations: Jake Warner on Cycle.io, Bare Metal’s Comeback, and Why Private Cloud Is Getting Interesting Again
Q: How does Cycle enable a cloud-like experience on bare metal and keep developers productive?
Cycle provides an environments-as-code model and a defined separation between infrastructure and applications, enabling a private cloud-like mesh that automates provisioning while keeping underlying hardware simple and predictable for developers.
Ship It Conversations: Jake Warner on Cycle.io, Bare Metal’s Comeback, and Why Private Cloud Is Getting Interesting Again
Q: What is your thesis on why teams are pulling back toward private cloud and bare metal again?
Teams are seeking lower and more predictable costs, better performance density, data sovereignty, and greater ownership over their stack, especially as hyperscalers raise costs and introduce more complex abstractions.
Ship It Conversations: Gareth Kersey on IaCConf 2026, AI, and Corey Quinn’s Terraform Keynote
Q: What does keeping pace mean for infrastructure teams?
It means balancing faster code velocity with governance, ensuring reliable operations, and identifying where AI helps or introduces risk, so developers can ship quickly without creating operational bottlenecks.
Ship It Conversations: Stephane Moser on Pipedrive’s Jenkins-to-GitHub Actions Migration, Argo CD, and CI/CD at Scale
Q: Why did Jenkins stop working for you, and what were you trying to optimize with this new system?
We moved away from Jenkins because Groovy pipelines and their setup were problematic, with shared VMs causing noisy neighbors and poor isolation. The goal was to reduce cognitive load, enable faster delivery, and create a self-service, observable CI/CD system with better scalability through GitHub Actions and a self-hosted runner platform.
Ship It Conversations: Ang Chen on Project Vera, AI Cloud Emulation, and Safer Infrastructure Testing
Q: So tell me about Project Vera. What is it?
Vera is a high‑fidelity cloud emulator that automatically generates a digital twin of a cloud deployment, enabling DevOps teams to test and debug their programs in a sandbox before touching real infrastructure. It supports APIs across AWS, Azure, and GCP and uses a combination of AI and formal methods to keep behavior deterministic and safe.
