I’m Bon Vivant, and professional talker, David Cross. I’ve been talking professionally for well over forty years. I’m good at it. I truly love a conversation that follows no specific linear train of thought but can start about the 2004 Red Sox and minutes later has become an in-depth look at the Iran/Contra hearings (with a detour about the best breakfast tacos in Austin). Whatever, as long as the... more

  • Very Funny Wit

Very funny podcast! David can talk about serious matters, but also carry on a dry-witted improv bit for shockingly long.

    Hope it comes back soon!

  • Come back, Little Sheba...

Please come back. I know I should have written this 5-star review earlier. I err. Oh, how I err. Now, I find myself two weeks without a new installment, and I'm starting to grow concerned.

Of course this podcast is one of the best out there. In a sea of one inane interview after another, Senses Working Overtime swims on its own. David Cross is himself. There is no artifice. There is no attempt to people-please or kowtow. He respects his guests by giving them an experience with him that's real ... more

  • Learned that

Yo, loving each show and genuinely laughing heartily. Very entertaining convos with guests you just meet or the sessions with old long time party buddies (non-gendered use of buddies). Thanks for helping me find The Cavedogs and now Tge Feelies ... geez my midwest years sucked for good bands.

  • Not everyone should have a podcast

Well, that was excruciating. Confirmed my sense of David Cross as a really nice guy, but he has no idea how to interview. Got stuck on really boring topics like crossing the street when there are no cars, and nagged at her about her relationship with cash and banking. He talked about himself SO much. And what was that weird part about at least sixty people are happy with Trump. The only signs of life were when Sandra took the reins and asked HIM questions. He was so disrespectful in not even d... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Paul F. Tompkins
Q: How can parrots talk?
Parrots can talk because they are not in league with the other birds, who can all imitate human speech and know what they're saying. But parrots are the only ones willing to betray that secret.
Michael R. Jackson
Q: Why does each month have only 29, 30 or 31 days?
Because I said so.
Annaleigh Ashford
Q: Why does every girl want the opposite of the hair they have?
I think it's because your hair grows, so it's always changing. Like every day, your hair is changing. Also, your hair never, ever looks as good as it does when you leave from getting it cut. So you're always trying to get it back to that state.
Nick Thune
Q: Can you answer Marlo's question about the difference between a red flame and a blue flame?
The difference is metaphorical; a blue flame represents knowing the truth, while a red flame is more oblivious or happy.
Ryan Sickler
Q: How can the sides of paper cut you if they're not sharp?
It's the slicing motion down that does the damage because anything can be sharp at the right angle.
