Steph is the go to for ALL things school counseling. Not only does she cover topics thoroughly but she makes them enjoyable! Although I’m retired now, I’m planning on doing some trainings for a local school and this podcast has helped me brush up on my school and school counseling lingo. Now I’ve been binge listening any that are similar to my training topic. When I was still a school counselor this podcasts brought me so much encouragement! Thanks Steph for doing the work it takes to make this... more
Steph speaks candidly about the realities of our role and tackles the questions many of us still wrestle with, even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when I don’t fully agree, her points are thoughtful, well-supported, and grounded in research. She offers hard truths and ideas for how we can lead more effectively in our work. Definitely worth listening to if you want to reflect and grow as a school counselor.
I am a former foster mom, now adoptive mom to four children with special needs and a whole lotta trauma. I am also a grad student working towards becoming a school counselor. These podcasts are amazing, and what I heard was called
tragic I’d like to relabel as magic! (And by magic I mean evidence based and well thought out!) These episodes are quick and easy listens that have helped me in both my home life and professional career (I currently work with students with varying needs). I cannot th... more
I listened to this podcast as a way for me to grow myself as a school counselor. She challenges me in almost every episode to make smaller changes in how I work with students. I just finished the episode about not accommodating anxiety, and she did make some great points. I only wish she would have included some accommodations that will decrease anxiety.
Steph, thank you for always providing us with research based information. Today’s podcast on anxiety really made me pause and think about my approach. I am excited to use the techniques discussed.

The show centers on the realities of school counseling, focusing on practical strategies, evidence-based approaches, and the day-to-day realities of working inside schools. Episodes tackle topics like building effective counseling programs, using data to drive improvements, handling burnout, advocating for the profession, and avoiding common systemic traps that dilute impact. A notable trait is the host's blunt, no-nonsense tone and emphasis on actionable steps, critical thinking about widely taught theories, and community learning through masterminds and shared resources. The podcast likely appeals to current and aspiring school counselors, as well as education professionals seeking pragmatic guidance and credible perspectives on policy, p... more
