Hosted by Lucy Valentine (Boonta Vista) and Jesse Black (Sludgefest). Savant-Garde is almost certainly the world’s only podcast where one autistic ex-wife and one OCD ex-husband unpack the disgracefully disordered worlds of Adrian Monk and the Good Doctor, Shaun Murphy, through the lens of two very normal brains.

someone who loves me listens to this podcast! someone who loves me gently shared that my fear of drinking bottled beverages that have been sitting at room temperature for 4 hours due to “contamination” and “bacteria cultures” sounds an awful lot like someone on a podcast he listens to! luckily i’ve learned maybe the reason i’m “like that” is OCD. in fact my therapist has suspected i might have OCD for several years now. my sister thought it was a “given” and a “known fact”. thank you for helping... more
Hey Jesse! The thing you mentioned last episode about making sounds/movements/words when you remember something embarrassing sounds a lot like Tourette Syndrome. It’s a disorder of the *voluntary* nervous system which can make it hard to tell if you’re doing it on purpose or not. People mostly think of TS as just shouting obscenities, but there’s actually all sorts of different tics you can have, including totally innocuous verbal stuff, twitching, etc. (A lot of things people think of as stimmi... more
A podcast so good that I feel no desire to watch the shows, what would be the point without all of the cutting analysis?
My journey here went: my friend-> Well There’s Your Problem-> Boonta Vista -> Savant Garde.
Good representation from Jesse, very poor representation from our boy Adrian. Shout out to Lucy also, you’re both so funny!

Two hosts—one with autistic perspectives and the other with OCD insights—analyze television and medical-drama storytelling through a neurodivergent lens. Across episodes, they unpack character dynamics in Monk and The Good Doctor, mix sharp analysis with personal anecdotes, and weave in humor about ethics, representation, and fan culture. The show stands out for its candid discussions of neurodiversity, bold meta-comments on storytelling choices, and a candid, conversational vibe that often doubles as a broad pop-culture primer for viewers who enjoy thoughtful critique with a side of personality. Bonus content, cross-promotions, and recurring references to mental-health conversations add a distinctive, inclusive flavor that regular listener... more
