  • great insights from one of the best!

Always enjoy listening to Richard talk about the more nuanced areas of Windows in detail—the guests are always the best.

I was a bit surprised to see him taking flack in an 8-year-old review concerning use of “corporate gal” in a sentence…iirc, that’s the “Corporate Global Address List,” not gender slang :-)

  • Focus more on broader IT and much less on MS/AI

This podcast is great but like a lot of other adjacent podcasts there is an issue where the topics get stale. There is way too much misguided focus on AI which is honestly pretty irrelevant to a lot of real IT people, and the obsession over it distracts from more interesting things in the IT sphere. This podcast tends to be a little too redundant when it comes to some of the talking points as well. Let’s talk less about Microsoft and maybe more about Linux servers, or Apple management, or waterc... more

  • Great guests and content

Hi — I enjoy RunAs Radio’s topics and guests, but I want to share a piece of constructive feedback: I often find the host jumps in and interrupts guests, which sometimes breaks the flow and makes it harder to hear the guest’s full answers. I’d love slightly longer uninterrupted answers and fewer sidebar comments so the guest can finish their points. Thanks for the great content otherwise!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Securing AI Agents with Niall Merrigan
Q: What terrible security problem are you dealing with today, Niall?
We're examining prompt-based vulnerabilities in AI agents, specifically how attackers can issue hidden instructions via prompts, manipulate memory, and escalate actions through legitimate-looking tasks, requiring robust guardrails and evaluation to prevent misuse.
Unified Tenant Management with Nik Charlebois-Laprade
Q: How does the new UTCM API change the way teams manage configurations in pipelines?
Teams can replace DSC start-dsc commands with API calls, feed configuration templates through versioned pipelines (GitHub, Azure DevOps), and trigger deployment via API, enabling faster, more scalable, and auditable changes across many tenants.
Unified Tenant Management with Nik Charlebois-Laprade
Q: What are the snapshotting tools and how do you perform this today?
Snapshotting analyzes the current state of a tenant, outputs a JSON representation of the configuration, and can be used to drive changes across multiple tenants via APIs, with the caveat that not all data is stored long-term and some items are filtered for safety and performance.
Hiring in 2026 with Suzi Edwards-Alexander
Q: What should companies do to avoid using outdated templates for hiring?
They should conduct capability mapping, understand future team needs, and design interviews around real work scenarios and collaborative problem-solving rather than simply updating job descriptions or relying on standard templates.
SQL Server in 2026 with Bob Ward
Q: What else was talked about at Ignite besides the big items?
Beyond the headline features, the conversation highlighted improvements in security, including passwordless identity via managed identity, performance and scalability upgrades for managed instances, enhanced developer tooling like the Python driver and a deeply integrated VS Code extension with Copilot, and the practical migration paths that allow customers to move to cloud services while maintaining control and familiarity with SQL Server.
