Great information but way too many ads. There is close to 6 minutes of advertising in a 35 minute episode.

  • The amount of ads on this podcast is staggering.

By far the most assaultive ad load I have ever seen on a podcast. This show is more repetitive ads than it is actual content.

  • Ron’s The Man

Been listening for over ten years. Ron is great and has great info but the ads have gotten brutal and their length keeps getting longer. It went from 2 minutes to now 5 minutes per ad break.

  • Great and Informative Show, But…

…It is a show for modern mechanics. It isn’t for an old guy with old knowledge on old cars who was a wannabe shade-tree mechanic. If you aren’t prepared to talk OBDII or the upcoming OBDIII specs and scanners along with other advanced diagnostic tools and methods, you won’t keep up.

At least this show convinced me, without asking me to, to use a Mechanic rather than fix my car myself

It will help younger mechanics on modern cars for sure as Ron approaches diagnostics with logic and thorough... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Does Automotive Technology Define Vehicle Life?
Q: Do you want me to give you the silver bullet or teach you how to diagnose it?
He chooses to teach the diagnostic process, guiding the caller through checking base idle, throttle position sensor voltage, and proper idle air control procedures rather than offering a quick fix.
Does Automotive Technology Define Vehicle Life?
Q: Explain it to me.
Ron walks through how to interpret fuel trims with short-term and long-term data, uses a hands-on approach to diagnosing lean conditions, and emphasizes starting with simple, known-good references before diving into more complex diagnostics.
Getting Your Money's Worth Out Of The Repair!
Q: How do you approach a no-crank condition on a modern vehicle?
Look beyond the starter; inspect the vehicle's computer power and grounds, inspect the ignition and transmission range sensor data, and confirm that voltage makes it through to the control modules under load.
Getting Your Money's Worth Out Of The Repair!
Q: What should I test first to avoid unnecessary part replacement?
Always verify the standing voltage and load-test the battery, then check battery cables and connections with a voltage-drop test before considering starter or alternator replacements.
When Is an Old Car Worth Fixing?
Q: What's the risk of doing major repairs on a high-mileage engine with potential other failures ahead?
Even if initial repairs seem solid, there's a high chance of future failures (e.g., transmission, right at the edge of life for several components), so the decision should factor in longevity plans, warranty options, and total cost of ownership.
