  • Next stop Omaha!

I don’t live anywhere near Omaha but I love Dan Hoppen’s podcast for its insights into good food and the restaurant business (material that can apply to almost anywhere in the country).

Hoppen asks great questions and clearly loves his city and its eateries. The recent episode about an innovative couple who run a food truck was especially good.

Omaha is now near the top of my bucket list thanks to this podcast.

  • Unbearable

If Dan didn’t have followers from his church no one would be listening to this. His hot takes are just plain lame. Mediocre dude who appeals to old people and raves over crappy food.

  • Needs an uplift . Having guests on 4x is boring

I liked this podcast in the beginning but now it’s all repeat guests but “live”. Nothing new or exciting anymore the same guests repeat the same stories .

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nate Flick—Godega
Q: How did you handle the transition from a grab-and-go concept to allowing inside seating and a more café-like space?
It started with listening to customers and recognizing the need for a space to sit, drink coffee, and work; we adjusted the layout and product mix over time, balancing quick transactions with a welcoming environment and adding seating and a café area in the newer location.
Nate Flick—Godega
Q: Why did you decide to focus on breakfast sandwiches as the main hot item, instead of a broader food program?
We found that breakfast sandwiches could be prepared quickly with a turbo chef oven, offered consistent quality, and served the morning rush efficiently, which fit our grab-and-go core while still allowing us to expand as demand grew.
Eli Vedral - Kookaburra Cookies
Q: What is the Strumble cookie and why is it special?
It's a six-ounce cookie topped with a muffin-like strumble, which adds texture and a moody contrast between gooey centers and crispy exteriors.
Eli Vedral - Kookaburra Cookies
Q: How can someone get their hands on your products?
Vedral explains online ordering via cookaburracookies.com, pickup from a commercial kitchen, local delivery around Omaha and Lincoln, and farmers markets on Sundays and Saturdays.
Brian Bendams—Funny Bone Comedy Club
Q: What makes cooking in a comedy club different from a traditional restaurant?
He describes the need for speed, two venues sharing one kitchen, and the balance of show timing with prep, emphasizing that the show drives operations and menu choices more than a typical dining room would.
