Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

MINI SCROLL INTERVIEW: Michaela Cook on songwriting, a three-year hiatus + living up to the label "the Aussie Taylor Swift"
Q: What can listeners expect next from you in music and other projects?
There's more music in Nashville production and pre-production for a TV show; I'm focused on continuing the journey, keeping guitar in hand, and not stopping.
MINI SCROLL INTERVIEW: Michaela Cook on songwriting, a three-year hiatus + living up to the label "the Aussie Taylor Swift"
Q: What does being independent mean for you as an artist today, and how has social media changed the game?
Independence gives me control over my release strategy and connection with fans; social media lowers barriers to entry, but also increases competition, so building a genuine relationship with the audience is essential.
MINI SCROLL INTERVIEW: Michaela Cook on songwriting, a three-year hiatus + living up to the label "the Aussie Taylor Swift"
Q: What happened during your three-year hiatus, and how did that affect your music and connection with fans?
I faced a family crisis, cared for my grandparents, and stepped away from music; coming back, I found a loyal fanbase who stayed with me, which reinforced the importance of audience relationships and inspired me to write again.
MINI SCROLL INTERVIEW: Michaela Cook on songwriting, a three-year hiatus + living up to the label "the Aussie Taylor Swift"
Q: What did it mean to be described as the 'Aussie Taylor Swift', and how do you feel about that nickname?
The nickname is flattering but carries pressure to live up to expectations; I view it as a way people understand the crossover appeal of country storytelling, while also recognizing the individuality of my own artistry.
MINI SCROLL INTERVIEW: Michaela Cook on songwriting, a three-year hiatus + living up to the label "the Aussie Taylor Swift"
Q: How did your path into country music begin, and how did you become known as Mix?
I started by uploading songs to YouTube while at university, and the audience grew as people connected with the country storytelling in my music, which eventually led to the Mix stage name and recognition in Australia.
