耳根圓通，乃最利之根。由古佛觀音如來所授，從聞思修之法，依根中聞性不生滅之妙理，起反聞聞自性之妙智，破五陰，解六結，生滅滅已，寂滅現前。
觀世音菩薩由於修了耳根圓通法門，「入流亡所」而開悟
觀世音菩薩同佛慈悲威力，故有三十二應；諳眾生悲切拔苦、渴仰與樂，故施十四無畏；又有四不思議，無作妙德者，由修無上道，圓通妙智故。前說法及稱名號，猶可窺測；千手千眼，現形誦咒，能令眾生得大自在，真是不可思議的境界。

是名十四施無畏力，福備眾生。
觀世音菩薩的十四種利益，一方面屬於信仰，一方面屬於修行，另一方面則屬於理論，三方面都要顧到。若是完全講信仰，就變成迷信；完全講修行，就是盲修瞎練；完全講理論，則是說食數寶，因此，信仰的、修行的、理論的，要三種並重，並不是僅僅強調某一部分。
