张芷美说，在加拿大这块土地上，她找到了自我，找到了自由飞翔的天空，找到了发挥潜力的气候，找到了安度晚年的场所。
在中国生活了 50 年，在加拿大生活了 35 年，张芷美谈到对人生的看法，对人生的态度。
她说，我觉得，总体来看，人的一生是平衡的，每个人都会有机遇，当然这也与个人努力有关，关键是要认清自己，认清自己的长处和短处，建立自信，不要轻易地被生活击垮。
她接着说，我认为一个人要活出自己，不要总是去跟别人比，生活中要自己做决定，尽量不去麻烦别人，依靠别人。

50 岁从东方迁居西方，完全换了生活环境，但张芷美很快就融入了当地社会，在魁北克省过得如鱼得水，日子很开心。
她说，我早就想好了，要适应西方社会，不能只扎在华人圈子里，当然我喜欢和中国人聊天，但不能局限于此。我有自己的尊严，但要尊重人家的生活和文化习惯，我把主客关系看得很清楚，毕竟在加拿大他们是主人，我们是客人，这是一个出发点。
张芷美说，来加拿大一年就找到了工作，在西方人的大公司，我一直在西方人里混，当然这里也有所有公司企业都有的内部竞争、矛盾，但有一样，工作必须干事，只要你踏踏实实干事，... more
退休后，张芷美生活中的新内容是一项接一项。
2015年，蒙特利尔市的华人导演胡志敏制作了一部针对华人社区家庭冷暴力的教育短片“寒冷的夜”，张芷美成功地扮演了片中“婆婆”的角色，接着，她又参加了一部跨文化婚姻纪录片的拍摄。
张芷美说，拍电影拍出了劲头，于是，她找了一位经纪人，这些年来总是不断有各种角色的片约。
2017年，她参演了蒙特利尔市的法语话剧 L’Amour Est Un Dumpling，与当地的艺术家们合作很顺利，她说，这些艺术家很敬业，他们的生活往往非常拮据，从事演艺不是为了赚... more
2002 年，张芷美女士退休，2016 年，她卖掉了房子，搬进了蒙特利尔市法裔区的一个养老院。
张芷美说，人老了以后应该怎样生活，这是她经常观察、思索的一个问题，虽然老了，精力、体力少了很多，但仍然可以给自己的生活增加新的内容。
在老年时代，胆大的张芷美开始尝试新东西，出演了电影和话剧，每天的生活都过得充充实实。
张芷美说，有人问，是否想回到年轻的时候，她的回答是No。 她并不想回到 20岁、30 岁的时候，因为生活的每个阶段都有着不同的内容。
