Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

128: Strategy. Culture. Legacy.
Q: Alex, you use provocative language a lot in this book. And we're only a chapter two here whose title is, No One Cares About Purpose. What do you mean by this?
Alex explains that many companies have performative purpose statements that don't reflect true living values; real purpose shows up in decisions and actions, not just words, and brands that stay true to purpose—like Patagonia—earn trust and loyalty. He cautions that public claims without lived commitment erode credibility and can boomerang back as damage when reality diverges from rhetoric.
138: Raising Founders
Q: Any last words for our listeners, Carl?
Carl emphasizes the importance of connecting youth with corporate ecosystems, continuing to expand programs like Mentored Industry Projects, and inviting listeners to visit Raising Founders to participate or support the mission, underscoring that collaboration across generations is crucial for sustainable progress.
138: Raising Founders
Q: Carl, tell me a little bit about the youth that you work with, the kinds of things that they do, so forth.
Carl describes students aged 12 to 20 who participate in Raising Founders, sharing stories of individual successes, the hands-on coaching model, and how these youths bring fresh, unbias perspectives to projects in schools and with mentors, often leading to notable outcomes like scholarships and internships.
129: Leadership, Social Wellbeing, and the Future of Work
Q: Nick, what are the most critical leadership skills today for successfully leading into tomorrow?
The core skills can be grouped into managing through change, maintaining stability, clearly saying no with context, articulating a compelling vision, and leveraging storytelling to make complex information memorable so people can follow and buy into the direction.
171: Into the Fog: AI and Leadership
Q: Pete, what would you say are some of the most critical things for leaders to unlearn in order to move forward in a growth way?
The first is that you have to have all the answers. Leaders often feel they must deliver certainty, but what people really buy into is being invited into solving a problem together. If you give people the problem and entrust them to figure out a solution, motivation and engagement rise because they contribute to something meaningful.

A leadership-focused series that centers on judgment in an AI-rich world.
