Mumford & Sons on Getting Back Into the Ring With 'Prizefighter,' Album's 'Fairy Godmother' Gracie Abrams & Why A.I. Can't Make Their Music
Q: How does the recording process go in terms of takes?
This was a bit swifter... a lot of the vocals were done on an SM7 microphone over the speakers, which was like a vibe.

Q: Is there something luxurious to having your own studio?
It's very functional, it's very helpful. ... But in general, I want to write songs at Long Pond for a little while longer.

Q: What is it about your sound and your music that seems to flow so naturally in the country world?
I think we're all really inspired by that kind of tradition of songwriting. It sort of emboldened us to lean into that side of our interests more and more.

Q: You've got Chris Stapleton and Josier and Gracie Abrams and Gigi Perez on the album. Did you go into the album thinking that there would be a lot of collabs?
Our bands have always been historically very collaborative... but we've never really represented that on record.

Q: For the new album, was there like a creative spark or urgency that motivated the new album?
It felt like we had many more songs. It actually still feels like there's songs yet to be harnessed and put in the studio.
