  • Thankful for Yu-Gi-Oh Coverage in Audio Format

These guys always have a great and level-headed attitude in discussing games and culture. They’re excellent hosts for this show. I’m just glad this exists, it scratches an itch for me. I need to be up on this stuff and can’t just have YouTube playing all the time. This actually helps me keep up-to-date while reducing screentime, compared to video coverage. But their vids are great too! Excellent work. Thank you.

  • Struggling

Long time listener, but some feedback. You guys try to be an “all around” nerdy podcast, but I often noticed you guys cover video game, movie, or card game news without trying them out. I hear Paul all the time say “I don’t know anything about this product but it sounds like…”.

It became extra apparent when covering the game awards when neither of you had anything to say about the games.

My advice: if you’re going to cover all things nerdy, you should split responsibility on covering the thin... more

  • Really enjoying your podcast

Hey guys, first time providing a review, honestly forgot how to since I listen you guys on Apple lol

I do have a question. Given the current direction of the game, while pendulum is the least popular mechanic, do you think there’s any chance that Konami would make a Cybersecurity based pendulum archetype? I ask because Cyberse is the only type that doesn’t have at least one monster that is also a pendulum. And if so, how do you think its strategy would be?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Do You Say "Playground Yu-Gi-Oh Did Not Exist?"
Q: Ty here, I noticed a common phrase said by players to casual players or people farming Yu-Gi-Oh for content who are expressing their negative experience of the modern current state of the game that goes along the lines of, the childhood playground game of Yu-Gi-Oh you knew never existed. Is there a better way to say this phrase towards this crowd without resorting to this?
A productive approach is to acknowledge that Yu-Gi-Oh has evolved through multiple distinct eras with different versions of the game, and to encourage dialogue that compares experiences across these eras rather than gatekeeping.
Timothée Chalamet x Yu-Gi-Oh!? Pokemon Controversy, Xbox Meltdown
Q: How do you feel about serialized cards? Do they help a game to grow?
Alec and Paul discuss that serialized cards could appeal to collectors and may not hurt the game, but their actual impact on growth is uncertain.
Timothée Chalamet x Yu-Gi-Oh!? Pokemon Controversy, Xbox Meltdown
Q: Is it possible that the TCG would die while the OCG and Master Duel still survive?
The hosts agree that Yu-Gi-Oh is likely to persist, as its community remains engaged and the game continues to evolve, albeit with concerns regarding stagnancy.
MTG Getting Harry Potter? 2XKO Controversy, and More
Q: Have you considered making gaming content about other games?
We would love to discuss more than just Yu-Gi-Oh, but turning hobbies into content can remove the enjoyment.
MTG Getting Harry Potter? 2XKO Controversy, and More
Q: If you were Konami of America, how would you create a new pipeline?
You need to meet kids where they're at, perhaps by creating a dueling simulator in Roblox or Fortnite.
