Phymaths podcast # 45 || Dr. Fernando Quevedo
Q: What alternatives to the Branderberger Waffer mechanism do we have to explain why the number of large dimensions is three?
At the moment, we don't have anything stable that provides an alternative to why there are three large dimensions. The theories do not provide a consistent explanation for the number of dimensions.
Phymaths podcast # 49 || Guest: Dr. Zohar Komargodski
Q: Would a recommendation from someone working in Stony Brook be preferable?
No, it doesn't matter. As long as it's somebody that I can recognize from a recognized university.
Phymaths podcast # 49 || Guest: Dr. Zohar Komargodski
Q: If I want to come to the Simon Center, does Simon Center accept Ph.D. students?
Yes, I have Ph.D. students.
Phymaths podcast # 48 || Guest: Dr. Raghu Mahajan
Q: How do you see the state of string theory in this particular decade in the 2020s?
I think it is definitely moving forward slowly but surely, but we still don't have a fundamental formulation of the theory.
Phymaths podcast # 48 || Guest: Dr. Raghu Mahajan
Q: Can you describe a bit how was your time at IIT? Did you know that you wanted to do theoretical physics before your time at IIT or did you develop that particular interest when you were in IIT?
I was in IIT Delhi for two years enrolled in a computer science major. I sort of knew that I wanted to do physics, but societal pressure made it difficult for me to choose physics at that time.
