  • A great iconversation with all sots of drummers

What I love about Matty is his ability to submit a question and let the guest speak and naturally take things from there, more often than not, covering most questions a listener would like to ask them selves! The youtube channel is great if you can watch as well as listen!

  • Essential Listening for Drummers

What can I say? The host asks all the right questions and the conversations unfold naturally which for me... is perfect.

For younger players, this will probably feel like a history lesson covering a music industry which doesn't exist any more. But take heed padawans, the lessons given about what it takes to be a successful drummer serving the music and your fellow players are as relevant today as they were in the past.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

David Greenie Green - Adam Ant / Andy Taylor / Reef / Becky Hill / sessions
Q: Are you into the recording side or tech side of things, and how much do you influence drum sounds or tuning?
The guest shares that he loves the sonic aspect and mic placements but doesn't run a full home studio; he relies on producers and engineers, tunes by ear with specific gear (Evans heads, G2/G1), and values learning from others like Steve White to improve technique and taste.
David Greenie Green - Adam Ant / Andy Taylor / Reef / Becky Hill / sessions
Q: How did it feel the first time you played with another drummer, and how do you divide the parts?
He describes how he prepared by studying videos and live performances, collaborated on trading sections, and learned the parts by watching YouTube and fan footage; the process involved some intuition and rearranging parts to fit both drummers' styles.
David Greenie Green - Adam Ant / Andy Taylor / Reef / Becky Hill / sessions
Q: So, tell us a little bit about the gig and what it's like being on tour with Adam Ant.
The guest explains he joined Adam Ant's band about a year ago, touring vigorously with 24 gigs in a month, and describes the no-click, old-school approach where tempo and coordination are managed live by the artist and the band, which brings a special energy to the performances.
Derek Roddy - Hate Eternal / Nile / Serpents Rise / Malevolent Creation
Q: How did your involvement with Pantera-era material come about, and what did you learn from covering that repertoire?
He describes how joining or subbing into established sets required quick study, respectful integration of a predecessor's feel, and adapting to a high-visibility situation while maintaining his own voice.
Derek Roddy - Hate Eternal / Nile / Serpents Rise / Malevolent Creation
Q: What do you look for in achieving a strong drum sound when recording or performing live, especially with modern gear and online setups?
Roddy stresses starting with the source and vocal ear-based decisions—tuning, mic position, and room sound matter more than heavy EQ; the goal is sound first, speed second, with a practical approach to achieving consistency across takes.
