  • Meh

I love Action network and the Buckets podcast, and that led me here. The guys sound like they are reading a script and falling asleep while doing it. I get almost no incremental value compared to just using the site. They don’t explain the reason why they’ll bet “down to a number” or even do a case study once per show. It’s very high level and directional.

My comment isn’t directed at every guy, because I don’t know who is who.

  • Best Baseballl Podcast

Excellent must listen-to podcast. Always late interesting information and discussion. Sometimes a bit too much “expected” analytics. I can walk into a bar expecting to meet a beautiful 36C blonde. But when I stumble home alone 2 a.m., my expectation is meaningless!

Love the pod and the articles. Every episode I leave feeling just a little smarter and more confident in my plays for the day. Definitely my go to for baseball plays and the guys are awesome.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Closing the Roof, Opening the Wallet | Mon MLB Best Bets
Q: How do weather and park factors influence your decisions?
Weather and park factors are critical; some parks suppress power or metrics like barrels and hard contact, which can tilt totals toward the under, while roof status can further modify expected scoring environments.
Closing the Roof, Opening the Wallet | Mon MLB Best Bets
Q: What's the most valuable bet on tonight's slate?
The Dodgers remain a strong value on the moneyline, while the under plays in several games (notably Dodgers-Diamondbacks total and Mets-Mariners under) offer solid upside given park factors and bullpen risk late in games.
Hitting Dingers with Derek | Fri MLB Best Bets
Q: Could you give a primer on the Bad X and how you keep updating the model?
The Bad X updates with daily data, accounts for weather and park effects, and continually refines batter and pitcher profiles to reflect current conditions and expectations.
Hitting Dingers with Derek | Fri MLB Best Bets
Q: Do you spread bets across multiple batters or focus on the single price that really stands out?
Focus on the exact player, the exact price, and the exact matchup; multiple variables matter, but the value often comes from a single, well-justified bet at the right price.
Hitting Dingers with Derek | Fri MLB Best Bets
Q: What drew you specifically to this play?
Pricing pressure and recency bias were both compelling; Framber's recent uptick was priced against him by public bettors, while the projection model suggested value based on his underlying stuff and a regression to the mean.
