  • A great philosophy podcast

I have been watching Parker’s notebook channel for two years now. I recently found this podcast of his and have been really enjoying it. His talks really get me pondering about concepts philosophy, religion and fiction. The guests he has on are super fascinating too!

  • Accessible but not dumbed down

Parker’s Pensees has become one of my top 3 podcasts of all time. Really enjoyable philosophy podcast than manages to be accessible to the novice philosopher without being dumbed down.

Always informative to listen to and great to hear a Christian perspective on philosophy. His voice is really soothing so you don’t get sick of it and he loves dogs (and God)!

To be honest, only reason why people wouldn’t vote 5/5 is if they’re a cat person…

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 274 - Can Philosophers Disprove the Simulation Hypothesis? w/Dr. Brian Cutter
Q: Do you think that hedging against simulation scenarios affects our belief formation?
It's rationally permissible to have anti-skeptical priors which could lead to skepticism about being in a simulation due to the nature of our cognitive faculties.
Ep. 274 - Can Philosophers Disprove the Simulation Hypothesis? w/Dr. Brian Cutter
Q: What do you take the simulation hypothesis to be?
The simulation hypothesis is that we live in a computer simulation created by intelligent beings in a higher universe. The thought is that we don't live in base reality, but in a derivative reality of a computer program.
Ep. 274 - Can Philosophers Disprove the Simulation Hypothesis? w/Dr. Brian Cutter
Q: Can you recall when you first heard about the simulation hypothesis?
I saw The Matrix when it came out in 1999, and I thought, oh, this is a cool idea.
Ep. 275 - How Notebooks Changed the Entire World Forever w/Roland Allen
Q: What would you call that kind of notebook? What was he keeping? What is that thing?
He called it his book, which reflects his personal attachment and the significance of documenting his life experiences.
Ep. 275 - How Notebooks Changed the Entire World Forever w/Roland Allen
Q: Can I ask, as we start like, why this book and why now?
There isn't a particularly timely element to notebooks, but I was the first to put effort into thinking about their origins and significance as an invention.
