This podcast is a very interesting way to learn English history. Each episode is a historical drama portraying a key moment in history. But the narrator is not one of the principal historical figures, rather one of the people close to them instead. Be prepared for a historically accurate mention of extracting evidence by torture and other oppressive practices.
Historical fiction anthology presented as monologues, all set in the UK and revolving around a pivotal moment in a character's life. Each episode has a different narrator and writer. The acting and writing are generally engaging, and the stories range from thought-provoking to amusing.
This podcast was quite fine. The characters and their stories were captivating. After listening, I found myself venturing down the rabbit hole of history surrounding many of these stories. It was easier to recognize lesser characters who witnessed history & ponder what that person’s story might be. more
I love the stories very much so far, but there’s just one thing that’s been bothering me a bit— in cop’s menagerie, I find the background music a bit too loud. I usually find looping music (such as that carnival soundtrack) quite distracting, and feel that it’s fine to replace that music with the sound of people chattering or animals roaring after having a minute or so of “musical establishing shots” (idk if that made any sense…) more
If you love history and a good yarn - you will love this podcast. Stories from the fringes of historic events, so well written! I have enjoyed it very much and hope they bring it back with more episodes
