Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Snizhana Shevchenko on Business and Human Rights in Ukraine
Q: What are the biggest misconceptions employers have about hiring internally displaced persons or caregivers, and what would you change in employment policy?
The biggest misconception is that such groups will underperform; in reality, the issue is about matching skills and opportunities. Advocacy for an adequate salary policy and tax reforms is crucial to remove barriers and encourage inclusive employment.
Snizhana Shevchenko on Business and Human Rights in Ukraine
Q: What is the current state of Business and Human Rights in Ukraine today, especially under war conditions?
The field is fragile, with war forcing activists and businesses to rethink how they operate. There is a push for change and a sense of shared responsibility between the state and the business sector, aiming to adapt to new realities and to recover in a sustainable way.
Snizhana Shevchenko on Business and Human Rights in Ukraine
Q: Could you introduce yourself, what you are doing and why you are part of this program?
I'm a legal analyst and researcher focused on law-related issues with NGOs and think tanks, with over seven years in HR and immigration issues. I joined the mentorship program to develop professionally, guided by prominent mentors who challenge and support growth.
Tamara Horbachevska-Konstankevich on Business and Human Rights in Ukraine
Q: If you could run the BHR4Ukraine Mentorship Program again, what would you keep the same and what would you change?
She would preserve the program's core idea of uniting scholars and practitioners but would push for better logistics during wartime (e.g., reliable electricity and internet) and would incorporate more pre-program interviews to align participant visions with longer-term engagement, including more in-person events.
Tamara Horbachevska-Konstankevich on Business and Human Rights in Ukraine
Q: And maybe my first question to you would be about business and human rights in Ukraine, actually. And as you are following developments, what changes have you seen over the past five years, positive and negative?
The guest notes both negative disruptions from war and positive growth in dialogue, including more discussions on integrating BHR into national policies and increased collaboration among NGOs, academia, and state actors, though a coherent national program remains lacking.
