Learning about the north has made my life so much better, I have a job, a wife and kids, I don’t even know where they came from they just showed up. By far the best person I have met, his conversations are fascinating and leave me wishing for more. Please make more of this podcast, I would listen to a D&D podcast on repeat every day of the week. Awakening Yule: Troubling the Monsters of Cultural Redemption with Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen
Q: Is this space about possession or public ritual as a way to catalyze perception?
Currently it's a public ritual space designed to form perception and animate the landscape; possession has not been a stated objective, though spirit relations may be part of the experiential layer for some participants.
Awakening Yule: Troubling the Monsters of Cultural Redemption with Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen
Q: How do you handle the potential for cultural misappropriation when reviving ancestral practices on stolen land?
The approach centers on relational learning, ethical engagement with knowledge holders, avoiding essentialist claims, and prioritizing allyship and ongoing dialogue to ensure practices are adapted respectfully and inclusively, not as mere LARP or commodified spectacle.
Awakening Yule: Troubling the Monsters of Cultural Redemption with Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen
Q: What is the core balance you're aiming for between chaos and solemnity in a modern Yule ritual?
The aim is to fuse revelry and reverence by anchoring transgressive play in a clear symbolic seed—so participants move through both wild, mask-driven energy and later a grounded, oath-based or solemn phase that aligns the group and deepens meaning.
