  • Favorite nonprofit resource

One of my favorite resources for training and finding new resources as a nonprofit leader. Thank you so much Josh and Anedot. So many other resources are full of very long, boring monologues with some sort of agenda behind it. This one really opens you up to what’s out there as well as a fun and interesting conversation. Such a great podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Recurring Giving: Why Most Programs Plateau and How to Build One That Grows - Dave Raley, The Center for Sustainable Giving
Q: Who's ultimately responsible for growing recurring giving within an organization and how should they be resourced?
There should be a single owner who is empowered, resourced with time and access, and supported by the organization to invest in recurring giving as a core strategy rather than a side project.
Nonprofit Data: How to Make Impact Measurement a Tool That Empowers Your Team - Stephen Minix, UpMetrics
Q: What are the first steps a leader should take to make impact measurement empowering before shopping for a platform?
Begin with internal alignment: clarify who you serve, what you serve them with, and how you'll know you're succeeding. Use workshops or Mad Libs to articulate the mission, then map data back to those statements and involve staff in building the framework before selecting tools.
Nonprofit Data: How to Make Impact Measurement a Tool That Empowers Your Team - Stephen Minix, UpMetrics
Q: So Stephen, what do you look for to understand whether a nonprofit's current data and reporting setup is empowering their team or just creating noise?
Look for whether data collection is tied to clear outcomes tied to the mission, whether teams can pull meaningful insights across silos, and whether staff see themselves in the data rather than it feeling imposed; the best setups start with listening and aligning around the mission.
Nonprofit Leadership: Leveraging Insights Over Instincts - Courtney De Ronde, Forge Financial and Management Consulting
Q: How can nonprofits practically shift from intuition to insights in decision making?
She outlines four areas—finance, leadership, productivity, and human intelligence—each needing reliable information, visibility, and predictive modeling, followed by flexibility to adapt plans as realities diverge from projections.
Nonprofit Leadership: Leveraging Insights Over Instincts - Courtney De Ronde, Forge Financial and Management Consulting
Q: What first sparked Courtney's interest in helping nonprofits move beyond guesswork towards using insights?
Courtney explains she started as a nonprofit auditor, seeing how financial statements could inform leadership decisions, and realized translating technical finance data into operational insights sparked her ongoing desire to guide nonprofits beyond gut instincts.
