ものごとの区切りを竹になぞらえて「節」「節目」といいますが、昼と夜の長さがほぼ同じになる秋分は、まさにその言葉にふさわしい時ですね。
窓から見える奥出雲の風景は、北から順に、穂を実らせた黄金色から、稲刈り後の枯れ草色へと少しずつ塗り替えられています。

夏と秋のいいところを同時に味わえる季節ですね。庭の栗の木が朝霧の中で佇(たたず)んでいる姿が凛々しく見えた朝でした。
まだまだ残暑の残る日中は水分補給を意識しているのですが、野菜のことに集中しているとつい自分自身については後回しになりがちです。
自然の中に"動き"を作り出す"水の働き"を意識して、秋、、、そして冬に向けて体を整えていきましょう。

夕方になると、少し日差しの和らぐ感じがするようになってきましたね。
メロンやスイカ、きゅうりなどが終わりはじめて、晩夏から初秋にかけてはオクラや茄子、空芯菜などが旬を迎えています。
自然栽培の視点でみると、畦や通路の刈り草を燃やしてしまうのは惜しいこと。集めて敷いてやると微生物たちの住処になり、虫たちの食べ物になり、やがて土に返ってその土地を潤してくれます。今年はできるだけこの働きを活かそうと、手作業ながらもトライしてみています。

夕立もなく日照りの続いていた奥出雲ですが、約3週間ぶりに雨が降りました。畑の野菜たちも、両手を広げて喜んでいるようです。
私たちは午後の予報と、風が湿気を帯びはじめたのを合図に、用意しておいた畑にニンジンの種を3列、急いでまきました。
思えば、天気に合わせた働き方をはじめて5年目にさしかかり、暦や空模様ばかりを気にしているうちに、時計に合わせて暮らすことが、少し苦手になってきたように感じます。
そんな中で、目覚ましをかけずに起きる朝は、特に私のお気に入りです。

油断していると肌寒い寝起きから、朝霧が晴れるとほんの小一時間で真夏の暑さまで一気に急上昇、くらくらぐるぐる。そんなジェットコースター的な体感の奥出雲です。
自然栽培の畑では圃場整理・種まき・収獲・出荷に加えて最近の作業は草管理。
どのような環境を整えてあげようかというのは、もちろん野菜たちにとってでもありますが、鳥や虫、土の中にいる微生物にとってでもあり、私たち人間の体の調子と天気と折り合いをつけていく、、、なかなか難しいですが工夫しがいのある作業です。
