The Nock On podcast is great. John Dudley gives expert level advice, for the experienced or novice shooter alike. Dudley speaks with experience, and that seems to be the framework of his podcasts. He has a wide range of guests, with all different viewpoints. Dudley is great at finding common ground, even in argument, and takes a very middle-of-the-road approach to archery. Dudley is the people’s professional archer, and talks frequently about his main audience (average archer). There are a lot o... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

PC 373 - Projectiles and Parking Lots with Dr John Delony
Q: Give me a little walk through your background and how you got to where you are.
The guest shares a path from Texas upbringing to college and career shifts, including time in education and administration, working for Ramsey Network, and how archery and hunting evolved from hobby to career through mentorship, sponsorships, and a commitment to teaching others.
PC 369 - LEADERSHIP & LEGACY with Bruce Pettet
Q: What was your first main job in the sporting goods industry?
He started as a Puma sales representative in Arizona, taking a commission-based role and working hard to break into the industry.
PC 368 - Deep Dives In Your Q&A’s with Expert Engineer Darin Copper
Q: What should one consider when choosing the back-wall hardness on a bow like RX and how it affects shot execution?
Back-wall hardness should be matched to your shooting style: a very hard wall suits a static, long-hold shot where draw length is steady, but can cause float or up-down movement for some shooters; a softer wall provides forgiveness and smoother draw length, especially if you trigger with less tension. The choice depends on how you pull into the wall and your shot cadence, with experimentation needed to find the balance that keeps groups tight while maintaining consistent draw length.
PC 368 - Deep Dives In Your Q&A’s with Expert Engineer Darin Copper
Q: How should release hand position influence front arm and back elbow during aiming and follow-through?
Keep the front bow hand relaxed and positioned at the door frame analogy to prevent shifting draw length; the elbow on the rear arm should be able to move (not fixed like 12 o'clock) to allow scapular movement and a consistent anchor. The goal is a repeatable reference that keeps the string path stable, not forcing the draw to rely on aggressive front-hand torque.
PC 368 - Deep Dives In Your Q&A’s with Expert Engineer Darin Copper
Q: What is the best way to set peep height for a hunting versus target bow, and how should you align it with the sight housing?
For hunting, set peep height so you're comfortable at shorter ranges (15-25 yards) but still able to look through the peep at longer targets; for target setups, aim for a peep height that allows solid alignment at the average competition distance (often 50-55 yards in practice) and then fine-tune by full-draw centering with eyes closed to ensure the peep is centered with the housing at that distance. If the average distance is the goal, tape-first and then adjust the peep to the average distance, using the sight tape as the reference.
